hd240z Posted November 3, 2007 Share #25 Posted November 3, 2007 My sons Honda was stolen 2 years ago in Phoenix. It was found a week later and towed to the impound lot. Allstate insurance paid for all fees, cleanup (detailing) and damage which was minimal. Best part was the car had more gas in the tank when it was found than when it was stolen (it was empty). dade280 Posted November 3, 2007 Share #26 Posted November 3, 2007 The solution is a bomb strapped to the gastank activated by cellphone. And a couple of cameras to make sure someone is driving it at the moment of explosion

DeMoore Posted November 3, 2007 Author Share #30 Posted November 3, 2007 Okay, first report on the 280Z:They screwed up the ignition, so the key won't work, and a screwdriver won't even work. I have to get a new one. They stole, for some odd reason, a bunch of the interior panels, including the center console, which was warped and cracked and from a 260Z. Some of the panels were new because i just got them from ebay. The radio area is all torn up, but I'm too tired to give the whole car a complete inspection to see exactly how much damage was done. They took a brand new set of halogen headlights that I was going to put in. Just got those from blackdragonauto.com. Thankfully, I got a heavy-duty harness for the lights that was still in the back. I haven't really been able to check out the engine, since I can't start it up until I replace the ignition. Oh man, there's a hundred and twenty dollars, and oh yeah, I had to spend 490 dollars getting it out of the tow yard and tow it to my house, since it wouldn't start at the tow yard. Losing that much money in one day and getting less of a car back really takes the energy out a person. I'm tired and pissed and I'm going to bed (not being lazy, I work graveyard). Thanks again to everyone who kept an eye out for the car, the police won't tell me where the car was found or who reported it, but I'd like to think someone from the Z forum saw it and called the police (hey, it's possible). Thanks for all the support and condolences. Let's see what happens to the Z now, I'm tapped for cash.If I have to sell it, I guess it's still restored with new upholstery and carpet and paint, so maybe someone will want it. Bittersweet day. red_dog007 Posted November 3, 2007 Share #31 Posted November 3, 2007 Can't insurance cover any of this? Report it to the insurance, give them proof and make them pay for what was stolen, and all the transportation fees.

zbane Posted November 4, 2007 Share #33 Posted November 4, 2007 Triple A or similar roadside assistance may provide reimbursement. I have roadside assistance through my cell phone, and it covers any vehicle I am driving. Well worth the 3.99 a month.

280z1975 Posted November 4, 2007 Share #35 Posted November 4, 2007 Back in 1999 I had my car broken into while in NYC ... I only had liability (I was 17 and made just about nothing with my job). So I figured my parents home owners would cover the claim. Well the deductible was 1% of the homes value ($1,300) and since they didn't believe that I had all of my bicycle gears stolen (or that they cost $55 each, and I had 11 of them!) they didn't pay out anything. Worst part was that because of that claim my parents were not able to get new insurance at a decent rate with another company because there was a claim filed (you have to wait 7 years).Insurance is a tricky thing that you really have to know the details of what you are getting and when and where and why it will pay out. The thing I hate is that if you ever use the insurance they start to charge you more. So most people don't claim the small things even when they can. beandip Posted November 4, 2007 Share #36 Posted November 4, 2007 I just got a call from the police department in the next city and they found my Z! I have to go to the station, get a release form, then go to the tow yard and pick her up. I don't know what the interior looks like, but the guy said it wasn't stripped on the outside. I just hope they didn't mess up the engine any more than it was, because with even that small extra damage, I will have to sell the car, because there's no money to fix it. I'll post pictures when I get back if they damaged it, but hopefully it's fine.Well what is the outcome? Is the car in good shape, damaged or What? :rambo:
