ARE 1970,1971,1972,1973, and early 260Z front and rear bumpers exactly the same? The reason why I am asking is because I purchased front and rear bumper over-rider bars off ebay and on first inspection they do not look like they will fit my 72 240Z !!!! And after looking at them I think I like the way my car looks without them!!!! They are in excellent condition but they just do not look like they will fit ,plus would I have to drill holes in my bumper to install them??? I that is true I just wasted about $60.00 bucks plus shipping !!!!

:stupid: :stupid: :stupid

: :stupid: :stupid:

Thanks

70 to 72 pretty much had the same bumpers, 73 did have a minor change in that now the car had different bolt hole arrangements for the rubber. I believe it was due to the shock absorber in the front / back.

The overriders on the back DO require a hole in each of the end pieces as well as the pair of holes right below the license plate.

The front overrider, depending on the style (there are 2 that I know of) will either require holes through the rubber and bumperette or holes through the bumper.

Don't despair, sell them separately on e-bay and you should make your money back.

Alternatively, post an ad here and see if one of the other members will buy them from you.

Why not at least post pictures so you can get better advice than the generic advice I've given here.

The bumpers bars themselves were quite similar, the biggest differences were in the mounting brackets and the fact that the later ones had a shock absorber. The early cars had the bumper guards (uprights on the face) mounted farther apart than the later cars. This make a big difference in the overriders. Small differences in the rubber rub strips and the way they mount.

As far as I can tell the '70 - '72 the bumpers are the same.

In '73 different mounts were used up front that were more substantial and they mounted the bumper a little further off the car. The front bumper had additional metal and rubber trim to take up the gap between the bumper and the car. The guards were closer to the middle and it used a different narrower over rider that mounted to the bumper instead of the guard.

The '73 rear bumper mounts and looks a lot like the earlier style but the guards were moved further to the corners. I have not seen a rear over rider up close but it also look to be a little different.

I haven't seen a early 260 bumper up close but from a distance they look like the late 240 bumpers but with full rubber covers on the overriders. The late 260 went to the shock style mount just like the '75 - '76 280Z. Also, the late 260-'76 280Z still had the 240-early 260 rear bumper mounting holes in the rear panel of the body work. But the side mount locations, behind the rear tires, were not the same.

No clue about the '77 - '78 280Z bumpers.

Just got some ZX bumpers and starting to figure them out.

Hope it makes sense. Corrections, comments, or questions are welcome! :)
