Desmogging Question

I guess that could be done. I would have to be done right so as not to add or decrese from it's size or bend or it'll probably break again when you try to install it. The engine vibration would probably break it anyway. I'd search for another one.

From what I understand, the EGR tube is still available. 14120-N4701 for California cars and 14120-N4702 for federal. They're about 55 bucks. I bought one 6 years ago and looking at the nissanparts.cc site, the price hasn't changed much although they charge less that the Nissan dealers.

Hmm.. If I went none EGR with a N47 Intake and Exhaust Manifold would I

have to change any Vacum lines or anything just so I know.

I can't say for sure with the Z car, but years ago a cheap muffler shop broke the EGR pipe on my 74 Volvo, and they plugged it off rather than fixing it.

The car would never idle properly after that. Apparently Volvo ran the EGR into the idle speed circuit, and without the exhaust gases the car always idled too fast.

As I said, I don't know for sure, but without the EGR valve operational the oxygen level in the intake will be higher than the fuel injection computer expects.

And, you'll never pass smog without it. Your's is a 77 and you live in California. You need to be careful with the modifications you do on it because it appears that the idiots in Sacremento intend to have us smog checking the 76 and newer cars for quite some time here.

Anyone have any ideas where to locate this vent tube for an L24 on a '72 240? None of the part numbers I have show it as being available. I may be pulling the motor from one of my cars and putting in a remanufactured motor. The new motor doesn't have the vent tube. Are these pressed in or threaded? Can I simply remove the one from the motor that's in the car now?

what ever you decide to do, either run an aftermarket filter on it or run it into the EGR valve on the ballance tube.

If the valve has been removed and blocked off, make sure to run a filter or tube on the pipe that runs lower in the engine compartment then filter if.

the picture below shows the filter on the valve cover and I use an identicle Larger one for the crank case pipe.

FYI 14120-N4702 is for California 280Z 1977 - 1978

and 14120-N4701 is for Federal according to MSA and other dealers :)
