Bonzi turns Blue

"Painter Ray" and myself put the last coat of clear on Friday night at 11:30. We brought it out in the sun saturday afternoon for these photos. Now for final sand, buffing and assembly. I wonder if I will remember how it goes back together after taking it apart 27 years ago?

Having it finally painted after all these years, is a shock to my system to see it all one color and this BLUE. I am very happy with the way it turned out.

I've seen photos of various Zs in the paint shop. Some have the doors off, some have the doors on and fenders off. Some have all detachable parts off and variations on that theme.

My question: Why the differences?

Mine was painted with the fenders/sugar scoops, cowl & inspection panels off, the doors, hood and hatch on. Yours was painted differently. I wonder why...

Most shops will paint it with as much disassembly as you ask for. The more disassembly (and asssembly that follows) the more it will cost. I also feel that the more the car is disassembled, the better the paint job will turn out.

Looks great. Love the blue, but you missed a spot. When it comes to painting some painters want it assembled so the color will match better but others like to paint each part separated so they can get to every angle.

gogriz01: The color in not EXACTALLY 115 Blue Metalic, but "Painter Ray" found a chip in his system from a 1991 Chrysler Import called Fiji Blue Metalic, real close. We mixed it and not quite right so we tweeked it a little (extra silver metal and pearl) and came up with this, a few shades darker and brighter than what we could find next to original. We dubbed it " 115.5 Bonzi Blue Metalic". Mixing samples can get expensive, so choice WAS made.

Big Oak: I hope it never looks like that again, that took 27 years.

d240zx2: Painter Ray would of done it any number of ways depending on amount of time=cost. I'm on a budget so fenders and hood stayed on. Doors and hatch were removed to spray the jams in and out (were black, don't ask), the hatch was painted at angle and the doors were upright. The scoops were already off and he took the inspection lids and gas door off to get evey edge on these.

280~Master: I know we will find someplace we got light, I have a pint left.

Justin260z: The only real way to tell is put both side by side, but I bet there is some difference, the chances of being spot on is astronomical. I'd really like to see group of blue Z's just for the shading, tones and hues, let alone shine, metalics and pearls.
