My H.I.D.'s

Well, I was going to get a video up because the pictures don't do it justice, but I have put the car to sleep for the winter. So here they are:

The blue backlight (came with the projector housings)

The halo ring (also came with the housings)

The H.I.D. (and this is the pic that doesn't do them justice)

Here is the diagram I adapted to show how I wired them up:

A comment, an opinion and a question from a self-admitted light fetishist:

Comment: The blue backlight (aka city light or running light) would be illegal here in Oregon, and most other states as well.

Opinion: Stephen's comment about the halos being "too modern" for a vintage car were no where near strong enough. I don't care for halos even on modern cars, not even on the BMWs that came with them from the factory. Just my opinion, though, it's not my car. Plus it could be easily un-done later, if desired.

Question: Am I correct in surmising from the wiring diagram that your HIDs are low beam only? Not bi-xenon?

Arne, you've been dieting?

:P

I agree with the above, mostly, although I'm not so much of a traditionalist that I would be opposed to the lights if they were proven to throw off more light (and, one would think, be safer). My car has H4's and the lighting seems to be perfectly adequate, though.....

Did you go with the 'mood ring' because you liked the way it looked, Djarbi.....? Or was that just a secondary thing?

I always kinda liked the halo look on the Bimmers when they came out, looked unique...on the Z? I hate to admit, I still like them...too each his own I guess...plus if I saw Darbji behind the wheel of it...well...need I say more? :)

Ditto on that, but if these were on my car I would rather have the rings light up as daytime running lights. Most likely would have to remove the blue element, but I think using them in such a way would be a smart use for a superfluous lighting element.

Do you think it would be possible to get some pictures of how it looks from the driver's seat or from a point standing next to the door? To see the differences of inside & outside the car, and maybe from one or two points on-coming.

Absolutely!

I chose those housings because they are projectors and I've heard they work great with HID's. TO be honest, I had no idea the blue light or the halo ring came with them. The blue light I could take or leave. The halo is kind of neat. But I have the two on separate switches and haven't used them at all since I installed the lights.

And yes, the headlights are low-beam only. However, with the visibility I have and the accuracy of the projectors, I don't really need brights. I don't use them enough for it to make that big of a difference. Had I chosen the HID's, I probably would have gotten a dual beam but they were a birthday present from my brother. And I couldn't be happier.

The blue is just a separate little bulb sitting in the housing. And I agree with you, dade280, I have blue lights in my pink Hyundai and it's really not easier too see.

Thanks for the comments and opinins, guys. It's nice to know what eeryone thinks.
