November 14, 200717 yr comment_228527 Is the blue just a backlight or the beam. I read somewhere blue beams actually make it harder to see and yellow is the best color.negative. white is best.the blue is what's called a "city light," completely separate from the primary lighting source Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/26220-my-hids/?&page=2#findComment-228527 Share on other sites

November 14, 200717 yr comment_228555 Y'all are something else 8-)Darbji posts pictures of her new headlights and the first comments are mostly critical. Wow. I appreciate that she went to the trouble to post pictures. About the lights:I am in favor of superior lighting. HID's are a great upgrade. As far as preferences:I would probably run the projector lights only, but that is because I prefer to keep the look of MY 240 original, and I don't think they would go well with the 70's orange. If I had built a car with a more modern look, (modern wheels, bright paint, whatever) then I would maybe want the blue light to compliment the look. I think they look great on Darbji's Z. I did replace the big sealed beam assemblies in my 94 Miata (think spiritual successor to the Z) with low profile Hella projector lights mostly for the look. If it was just a lighting thing, I could have just installed Hella E-Codes.AlBTW Darbji, I really like your car collage. November 15, 200717 yr comment_228663 I have to add another car to that collage. Bought a Cadillac yesterday. It's a disease, I can't help it.Hilarious!Every so often I come across a car that I seriously want to buy. Recent examples:85 Supra - 4x,xxx miles77 Celica Fastback72 Datsun 510Eventually, I come to the same conclusion I have so many times before. I don't have the time to keep up another car. No matter, this will happen again. Currently there are a couple Z's I want to look at. A rarity in this neck of the woods. Darbji, Of course I get the Z. I get the Delorean. I get the Cadillac. I think I get a (one) Neon. I am a little lost on the rest...Right, it is a disease! :laugh:Al73 240Z 48,000 miles - Garage queen94 Miata 49,000 miles - Fair weather car92 Miata 92,000 mile - Track car---94 GMC Sonoma 179,000 miles - Utility 2005 Altima - The wifes car2007 Kia Spectra5 - Work car Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/26220-my-hids/?&page=2#findComment-228663 Share on other sites

November 15, 200717 yr comment_228696 the HIDs look nice but I don't think those are projector housings. They are projector "look" lenses, right? Just a round lense in front of your HID element. November 16, 200717 yr Author comment_228732 You know, they might not be true projectors. To be honest, I'm not exactly sure what makes projectors. I like those housings though because I didn't have to aim them at all. That was the part I was fearing the most.Darbji, Of course I get the Z. I get the Delorean. I get the Cadillac. I think I get a (one) Neon. I am a little lost on the rest...The red neon on the right was my first car. I bought her new with 12 miles on the odometer when I was fifteen. She's my only automatic but I will always love her anyway. The green Hyundai was purchased as a work car for $150.00 and gets 40 mpg. I thought that was awesome so I bought the pink one and then fell in love with it. The pink one is much nicer to look at. And it's incredibly fun to drive!!!! IT's so tiny and nimble! I love it!The neon on the left was such a good deal I couln't pass it up. So I bought it and of course became attatched to it. Then my dad got a new job and didn't have a car to drive to work so he's driving that one.The Delorean came into my life and brought a wonderful friend with her. And he's been worth all the heartache the car has caused me. And the Cadillac... I don't know how that happened. I woke up one day and was like, "hey, there's a Cadillac in the yard. Hmmm"And then there's Kharma. I don't even have to explain why I love her. November 16, 200717 yr comment_228761 There appear to be HID kits now on eBay for around $80 shipped. They look legit. I was thinking about trying one for my truck but I'm hesitant to buy HIDs for a non-projector housing.I'm sure the road looks good without adjusting those, but have you had the opinion of drivers who have been in front of you or driving the opposite direction? Projectors have a nice clean cutoff where light does not go up into the eyes of oncoming drivers. November 19, 200717 yr comment_229056 The red neon on the right was my first car...The green Hyundai ...The neon on the left was ... The Delorean ...And the Cadillac... And then there's Kharma. I love this explanation. Not a hint of guilt. Just a person enjoying her cars.As a hopeless car addict, I understand.Al-who has heard more than once, "why don't you sell those cars and get a good one". I don't want a good 'one'. I want the ones I have. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/26220-my-hids/?&page=2#findComment-229056 Share on other sites
November 19, 200717 yr comment_229068 i was considering those lights off ebay when i was wanting to buy mine but assumed the focal length of the projectors wasn't correct as they are made for h4 lights not hid length globes, and the projectors aren't sealed so the light goes everywhere as you can see from the picture of the bucket and here is a picture using hid projectors for comparison you can see how much less glare is directed at oncoming traffic, and since this picture was taking i've sealed off the projector better by using a coke can as its the correct diameter, so light can only go through the projector, so mayb give that a try so ur not blinding everyone! www.hidplanet.com has brand new e46 projectors and all the electronics needed cheap and ofcourse its heaps better quality than kits off ebay...
