Destiny is not with me, or my Z

For the life of me, I cannot seems to get my Z painted. I've had different things happen from money going up in smoke, to waiting for 6 months then having the shop change their policy on classic car restoration. It almost seems as though it just isn't in the cards for my Z. Some shops want too much money and other don't want the job. Morale is low right now; a stroke of good fortune would sure help.

The good fortune is that you have a Z, and it is lovely. The difficulties put in your path (and your Z's) will only lead to more appreciation and enjoyment of your car once it is done. Some would say that good things come to those who wait, and as much a cliché as that is, there is some validity in it.

Perhaps this would be a good time to look into learning how to do it yourself, as others on the board have.

Brian,

I was thinking the same thing as I pulled up your post. The paint is holding up my whole project. My engine and drivetrain is done, my suspension is all redone, I have recovered my seats and have new carpet waiting but I can't bring my self to pay around 5k for a paint job so I am doing the bodywork myself and waiting on a friend to paint it in his garage. It has my morale down too, and I just found out my daughter has been accepted to Indiana University---so you know where my money is going:disappoin

I am happy to send my kid to school, but I don't see any light at the end of the tunnel for my Z. I am like you and hoping for a twist of fate or the lottery

Bryan,

A member here, CandyBlue 2+2, is in Newport News and does automotive pain/ restoration. From some of his posts in my paint thread I get the feeling that old cars are up his alley.

Maybe you could PM him? Or search his posts for more info...

Go shop shopping. I don't know how big your Ytown is, but I'd bet there are several shops there that could do your paint work. Is there another town of any size somewhat nearby? Scout them/it out, too. It's best if you can find someone that knows restoration, rather than a bump and dent shop. You'll get better service and quality....but the $$ may be some more. Check out local car clubs for recommendations for a shop. Those are the guys that KNOW good painters and those to avoid.

Best of luck.

Regards,

I appreciate all the support, I really do. It makes me appreciate this club. xray, Candyblue is the one who had to give up my job due to his employer making a business decision. He's a great guy and does awesome work. I wish there was another way I could get him to paint my car, but his schedule is full. If you have normal collision work he's the one I would go to.
