Hi everyone,

I belong to another Z car forum and have found much useful information here so I thought I would join and introduce myself.

I have a pretty stock 1972 240Z, all numbers matching car that has had little done with the exception of new electronic ignition (pertronix), coil, z specialties IR alternator and a mild cam upgrade. Lots of detail work under the hood and of course black paint. Still lots to do as it goes in for new floors ( Zeed findings) this December and perhaps a new coat of colour before spring.

Welcome to the club, nice to see another early car staying mostly stock or with only period mods. I enjoy almost all zeds from stock to heavily modifed, but as stock as possible is my main passion.

Please post some before, during & after pics of your floor restore, I may do the same soon. I'm only about an hour up the valley from you and may be interested in hearing who is doing your floor work.

Hey Mike,

I'm going to try and get as many shots as possible for the floor repairs to document the process. The pans look great from Zedd findings and there is a fellow named Dan Giroux in Surrey who is going to do the repair. He owns a small shop called the Zed Shoppe and was highly recommended.

As far as paint goes, mine is full of orange peel and although it looks great from 10 ft, I want it to look as good as possible.

Your car looks great, love the headlight covers. I'm in the Okanogan/Okanagan Valley just south of Osoyoos on the U.S. side of the border.

Welcome, Chris. You are correct when you say you have found a lot of useful information here. I thought I knew a bit about the 240Z, but after viewing the forums here over the last few weeks I am humbled by the knowledge of the members of this club. As well I agree with Bigoak "Nice to have another Canuck aboard. Nice looking ride."

I suspect it's because Nissan was fully aware that black shows every body flaw, and that the build quality of the early S30 bodies just weren't good enough to carry it off.

This was apparently a common practice for Japanese vehicles in the '70s. I was with my dad one day on the local Chevy dealer's lot while he was shopping for a new LUV 4x4 pickup. As he kept looking over all the trucks, he kept finding rather obvious flaws in the body work in each truck. He commented to the salesman about how poorly welded and assembled these trucks were. And the salesman's immediate comment was that if he wanted one with a good body, he should be looking at the black ones, as they only painted black on the best bodies. And he was right, every black truck on the lot had nearly perfect body and paintwork. The other colors were no where near as nice.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. As for colour...I am keeping her black as I find it absolutely stops traffic wherever I go. It was 112 lime yellow originally and there are some imperfections with the paint now so I am hoping to get her all smoothed out and re-sprayed base/clear to really make it pop.

The only other upgrades for her will likely be new suspension, 5 speed and perhaps some better rims and tires.
