Posted November 18, 200717 yr comment_229006 Ok, Finally got most of the rust cut away and 90% of the fiberglass and here's the deal, someone did weld in new floors sometime ago. The question I have is do I need to take more of the metal out or is it fine to start the repair on the outside. Viewing from the inside you can see the welds and the floors are solid with no holes or rust, there is a little surface toward the rear. I was going to finish cleaning and then Por 15 the inside unless you guys recommend something different. Regarding the outside, I can still cut some more out but it would be solid floor to cut, I did get all the major rust and decay out. I havent air blasted all the cracks, etc yet but after everything is cleaned am I done and ready to seal? I would appreaciate any advice as this is all new to me.....but I'm having a blast working on this. Thanks again, and when I get this resolved and get my new interior in I'll post some pictures. Thanks guys, Randy Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/26279-finallypart-three-of-the-rusty-floors/ Share on other sites
November 18, 200717 yr comment_229008 That's great news. It's not as bad as I thought. What I would do is trim the excess metal back as far as possible with the goal of one layer of metal with no overlap. If it is advantageous to leave some overlap to gain strength make sure you have the perimeter of it welded up tight. Then, get that rust cleaned up as best you can and use your POR. Good luck, and I gotta say again...sure is a pretty car.
