1973 240 hitachi carbs,will start with starting fluid but won't continue to run. changed pump and filters,drained tank,fuel flows to carbs. any ideas?

I don't have any experience with the original "flat top" Hitachi carbs on a '73. If your car has the earlier Hitachi "round top" carbs installed I'd verify that the float bowls are getting filled up properly. You could have stuck needle valves or clogged inlet filters.
