August 13, 200222 yr comment_12841 Boholio-There's a really good shop up in Boulder. It maybe farther than you want to go but I was told they're the best in the state. Independant motors at 2nd and Pearl in Boulder. There's another shop off of colfax somewhere but I'm not sure of the name or address. That shop had originally worked on my car (via the previous owner) and did a great job. They converted my crappy flat top carbs to a 72 setup with the domed carbs and installed a cam. If I can find the name of it I will post it. Where are you in Denver?BTW, you can find a list of places that work on Z's at www.zccc.com. in the area as well. Good luck. August 13, 200222 yr Author comment_12844 Excellent,I'll give these guys a call. The boulder guy is further than I'd like to go, but it is definitly worth it to me having someone work on it who knows what they are doing. I also checked out zccc.org, but their list is basically a bunch of dealerships, I'm not sure how much I trust those guys working on my hi-perf 73 ya know. Anyway, I live in Highlands Ranch.I appreciate all your input, very helpful! February 14, 200322 yr Author comment_26736 Well, I just have to let you guys know what the heck has been going on with my car! First of all, the place not to take your non-stock Z = Wheels of Forturne! The place to take your non-stock Z=Rallye Sport by Jeff Winters!!(Many, many thanks to Hmsports for the recommendation)Not sure if anyone has seen my Z, but it is very pretty, or atleast was. Story goes, it was stuck @ Wheels of Fortune for 4 months trying to get it to run right, NO LUCK, only problems, not going to go into it unless anyone wants to hear it! I then had my car transfer shops to Rallye Sport, and it is up and running like a champ in 2 weeks! Now, here goes the venting!!So, I finally go to see my car after not seeing it for 4 months, my right front fender has a foot long crack, and my rear spoiler has 3 cracks. Have no idea what the hell happened, but NOT COOL! Wheels of Fortune has agree'd to "take care of the situation" but nothing has been done yet, I should have my car back next week, then off to find a good body shop! Anyone know of a GOOD body shop, please forward info on to me.Anyway, I'll keep you posted on the outcome! February 14, 200322 yr comment_26744 XYZ and HMsport thank for the contacts. Boholo thank you for the warning. I think we're talking the same shop I know it as Fortunate wheelZ. I've delt with him on a limited basis and I thought he was a good mechanic w/ bad people skills or maybe I rubbed him wrong. Here's a heads up he's is the VP for ZCCC. As for body shops it depends on what kind of body work you're looking for there are plenty of quality shops that can do prep and paint I take my Toyota to Matrix Auto Body. But if you need any restoration Beware Denver is full of fly by night shops some of the custom shops won't touch a Japanese car. My car is at Rocket Painting (in the company of some very fine show cars), looking at the panels he's replace I think he's done outstanding work at a resonable price, he may not be listed, if interested I'll hook you up w/ a #. February 14, 200322 yr Author comment_26745 Your right, Fortunate Wheels, Bob is the owner, he seems to be a good guy, just kind of dinked around with my car and didn't make any progress for what ever reason. If you have a name and # for Rocket Painting, that would be great! Thanks Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/2630-need-good-mechanic-in-denver-co-area/#findComment-26745 Share on other sites
February 14, 200322 yr comment_26752 I checked out your photo gallery and remember seeing car at fortunate wheelZ. He was trying to retune it to get it through emissions. Very Nice Ride!!! February 14, 200322 yr Author comment_26755 That was mine! Yea, it only took him 2 months to get it to pass emissions, yeah, fun. I'm not exactly sure what exhaust it has, I know it's an old racing header going through 3" pipe to what I think is a flowmaster muffler, I will keep you posted. The sucky thing is I have owned my car for only about 7 months, and Fortunate Wheels has had it for over 6 months!!!! So what I know about it so far is very little, the guy who has it now is going completely through it to figure out exactly what I have, and so far has only good news!!I appreciate the number, I'll give him a ring when I get my car back. Thanks, Bomore to come.... February 14, 200322 yr comment_26756 I have owned my car for only about 7 months, and Fortunate Wheels has had it for over 6 months!!!! 2 months to get it to pass emissionsWow, Whats going on here? If a shop told me they would have my car for over a few day for anything less then a new motor or fusebox I would walk away. :tapemouth Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/2630-need-good-mechanic-in-denver-co-area/#findComment-26756 Share on other sites
February 15, 200322 yr comment_26761 I'm definitely not try to start anything but because you only had it your possession a month, and may not know the car very well. maybe you do know while detuning the race cam was removed. If maybe your not a Co. Native, did you know there are a lot of counties in Co. where you can register your car w/o emmissions I have mine regestered to my sister address. FWIW. but I'm pleased to meet ya! and maybe when I get a drivable Z we can hook up. again Nice Ride! February 17, 200322 yr Author comment_26938 Yea, I know the cam was removed, that is part of my frustration too. I told Jeff everything that the car had supposedly had done to it, so he started to invstigate. He found the cam was off 15 degrees and that there is currently a stock cam in it. So Wheels of Fortune guys supposedly took out my cam out, put in a stock cam, passed emissions, then put my cam back in. This isn't anything that I can prove, but I was told the car had a hot cam in it, it sure felt like it, and everything else was there that would have supported it as well, so long story short, I am purchasing a new cam!! I'm telling you, I could right up an essay on all the troubles I have had!carguyinok, I know, I'm not so smart, I am to trusting of a person and I believe what people tell me, and am working on this. This is the last time I get screwed!
