Posted November 21, 200717 yr comment_229320 I'm shopping around for some Z's '71-'78. Anyone have and ideas or cars?My brother bought a new 240 in 1972 and drove it over 250,000mi before he lost interest in it in the 90's. I bought a used one in '77 right out of high school. But it became a rustbucket within 7yrs. Ive had a 79 rx7 since new but I want a Z again. Mid life crisis I guess! November 21, 200717 yr comment_229326 I would recommend you start looking at Craig's list San Diego, LA, Phoenix AZ, etc... You might find one on ebay. November 21, 200717 yr comment_229331 I know an original owner 260z with low miles. Its down the street from me. Always garaged and never driven in the messy weather. I don't know the specific mileage and details or if it has service records, but I can find out if anyone is interested. The only thing I do know is the owner is asking $10k for it???!! November 21, 200717 yr Author comment_229352 10k? Its got to be mint for me to spend that kinda cash. For that, I'll look for a 240. Bruce, how much after you finish, ballpark? There's a '78 on Ebay, black w/megasquirt? I might bid on this weekend. It looks real sharp in the pics, I hope its not just skin deep! Also a silver 78 is only about 2 hrs away from me which I think I can get for under 5k - also on ebay but I might do a private trans w/him. Anyone else have any thoughts? Thanks, John. November 21, 200717 yr comment_229353 ... will be about half of that of the garaged car. Here's a short list of what's been done.'78 280 with 118k Original paint, A/C, 5 speed, fresh engine, ZTherapy Hitachi (SU) conversion from the block out, K&N Filters, Centerforce clutch and lightenend flywheel. New brakes, New M/C's and slaves both brake and clutch, Norris 327 cam, 2½" exhaust with Flowmaster, header, new tires....This car is being prepped by the same guy who did several of the award winning Z's and roadsters at the Portland Roadster show last spring, not me. I don't have time to clean my garage..... nyuck nyuck Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/26305-im-looking-for-a-new-z-year/#findComment-229353 Share on other sites
November 21, 200717 yr Author comment_229355 Sounds extremely reasonable. Problem is I'm on the other coast. If its not too long maybe I can wait! Got that itch! If you got time check out that black '78 with the Megasquirt and give me your opinion. Also, any rust issues w/ your 280? November 21, 200717 yr Author comment_229356 Sorry, my mind's slipping from all this Z excitement. That black '78 is on Ebay. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/26305-im-looking-for-a-new-z-year/#findComment-229356 Share on other sites
November 22, 200717 yr comment_229359 I sincerely doubt that the black 280Z you are looking at will sell for less than $7500. It could go as high as $10k if it's not rusty. Still more than 3 days to go... Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/26305-im-looking-for-a-new-z-year/#findComment-229359 Share on other sites
