Bruce Palmer Posted December 4, 2007 Share #37 Posted December 4, 2007 ... of this exercise John, is that you're getting smarter with each situation that presents itself. There will be a quiz (when you buy that next car) and it will be graded so keep studying......It's kinda fun to be looking over your shoulder during this process...... Montezuma Posted December 5, 2007 Share #44 Posted December 5, 2007 Taking off the G-nose is easy. All you need is original headlight buckets, hood hinges and grill. You can go with the factory lower valance or simply put on a fiberglass aftermarket one. Piece of cake.
mazdatsun428 Posted December 6, 2007 Author Share #45 Posted December 6, 2007 Mid-atlantic area got a couple of inches of snow Wed. Salt + Z do not mix. Cancelled thurs appts. Damn!
mazdatsun428 Posted December 9, 2007 Author Share #46 Posted December 9, 2007 Well everyone, ITS DONE!!!!! Put my money down on a green 71 240Z. Balance on Wed, then short 2hr drive back home. Maybe I didn't take as long as I should have to close deal, but car is really straight and clean! Checked all 4 fenders, surface and underneath, rear hatch area, rockers, engine bay and saw nothing evident. I was ecstatic! Then I remembered to check the main rail and floor boards, only checked the drivers side and they also were clean. Overlooked the spare tire compartment, but I imagine it is also good. I don't care, I GOT HER!!! The test drive was good, except at full steering lock she rubbed a fender - no problem. Also while driving and letting off the accelerator, there is a small shimmy coming from the rear. Don't know what that is, hopefully not serious, I'll let my mechanic take a look, but I don't care, I GOT HER!!!. Y'know, its hard to believe after 25yrs, w/o driving a Z, it brought back happy memories the moment I pushed down on the accelerator and felt that quick surge and neck snap, what a rush!!Gotta coupla questions and the Z's own honey-do-list already: (1) to undercoat (ziebart) or not - will it just hide the rust from me, or will it actually help protect the chassis? (2) headlight and parking light harness upgrade I've been reading about. (3) is it better to run a direct lead from battery w/inline fuse for accessory outlets to power radar detector, GPS, and IPOD? I'm sorry but these are 2007 must have creature comforts for cruising, at least for me. (4) front air dam (5) new throatier exhaust (6) maybe the alternator upgrade in time. That'll be pretty much it I believe, but she'll probably ask for more, they always do! I'll try to attach a pic here. Oh, and it has slots on her now, wheel and tire size I forgot to ask, I don't care, I GOT HER!!!Oh Doug, if I forgot, THANK YOU VERY MUCH! bigoak Posted December 9, 2007 Share #48 Posted December 9, 2007 Yeeehaaaa!!!! Post photos ASAP!!!!As for the questions (note that I'm not an expert, but learning):Gotta coupla questions and the Z's own honey-do-list already: (1) to undercoat (ziebart) or not - will it just hide the rust from me, or will it actually help protect the chassis? (2) headlight and parking light harness upgrade I've been reading about. (3) is it better to run a direct lead from battery w/inline fuse for accessory outlets to power radar detector, GPS, and IPOD? I'm sorry but these are 2007 must have creature comforts for cruising, at least for me. (4) front air dam (5) new throatier exhaust (6) maybe the alternator upgrade in time.1. No. Find rust. Eliminate rust. Rebuild if necessary. Don't drive in conditions that will lead to rust (I should have taken picture of my car when it was delivered by the transport company after a record snowstorm in Montreal).2. Yes. I've only heard good things. That being said, not the most pressing priority.3. No. Upgrade to 280Z alternator and upgrade your fuse box to accomodate. If you are going to run the bells and whistles, this is a priority.4. Sure. Looks cool and is functional.5. Maybe. HP gains are limited, so it is based on personal preference on tonality. From an appearance perspective, I sure like the ANSA mufflers that WingZr0 is selling...(maybe he'll give me a discount for the props...)6. Yes. See # 3.Cheers,
