gogriz91 Posted November 22, 2007 Share #1 Posted November 22, 2007 Wasn't this on EBay awhile back? I thought the car was from the Carolinas?http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-Z-Series-1973-DATSUN-240Z_W0QQitemZ110196668588QQihZ001QQcategoryZ6187QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
DeesZ Posted November 22, 2007 Share #2 Posted November 22, 2007 That car does ring a bell from not too long ago. Another zero feedback seller here, and IMO a red flag requiring extra caution if interested. Let me qualify that a bit, too..... Some of my best purchases over $500 on eBay have been from zero feedback sellers. The fact is that their lack of feedback scares off a lot of potential buyers and bidding competition. I have always made an extra effort to get to know these folks in all ways possible before bidding. About 2/3 of them have not earned enough of my confidence to get a bid out of me. If a seller in question is willing to communicate with you, do so and judge your comfort level with them. Pretty much common sense. As an avid eBay seller I do my best to avoid zero-feedback buyers... about 85% of them are deadbeats that consume a lot of your time and never pay. But hey, buying or selling on eBay.... you gotta start somewhere (but really, I would not start out with big-ticket items).
Arne Posted November 22, 2007 Share #3 Posted November 22, 2007 Got any members in Mesa? We should ask if the car can be inspected in person. If it can be, it's legit and looks like a nice car.If the car isn't available to be inspected, though... MEZZZ Posted November 22, 2007 Share #8 Posted November 22, 2007 The car has been listed at least two times before. THe first time, it was a scam for sure as I had contacted the seller. I had seen it for the first time in the completed listings and it had not sold. I asked what the reserve was and if it was still for sale. I received a eply saying it was still available, I asked for more photos and received them the same day. Then I was told I could have the car for $4000, including SHIPPING as the dude's brother works for DAS. Of course, at first glance I was like, hell yes, but something didnt seem right. I email the seller with my # and ask him to call me, I wanted him to relist the car with a buy it now price of $4000 and then I would be covered under Ebays Fraud program, I wouldnt work outside of Ebay. I get a reply back with an "Ebay Invoice" for $4000. Something is strange about this, I contact ebay, and yes, its a scam. I write the guy back and tell him I turned it over to Ebay security and I never hear back from him. A couple weeks later, the car is re-listed, I email the seller, telling him about what happened, someone must have hijacked his account/auction, etc. I get the same reply, same guy, different account name, same result. I turn it over to Ebay security again. The replies always came with lightening speed, like the dude is sitting there at all times waiting. But it is a good looking car
MEZZZ Posted November 22, 2007 Share #9 Posted November 22, 2007 After my last experience though on Ebay, I doubt I would ever buy anything of real value sight unseen. It is a shame there are people out there scamming, most on Ebay are very reputable. I have met some on there that have been downright generous. I bought a complete set of gauges last month for my '77 for $12.50 (cant remember exact amount), wrote the seller to thank him once they arrived, swapped numbers, we spoke a little one night and the guy offered to send me his L28 for free, (he had done the Ferarri body kit-V-8 swap), said it ran strong when he pulled it and he would crate it up, all I had to do was get a freight company to pick it up... I bought a working clock off another guy and spoke with him yesterday on the phone, he is going to send me some misc. stuff, injector harness, fan switch, etc, didnt want any money, not even for shipping, told me once I get them, if they help me out, I could see the frieght charge on the package and send it to him
