OK ... what about our 1971 240 Z, we're about to put out to bid on eBay next Thursday. My brother is the original/current owner of this 36 year old classic (single owner) and ready to let go. Wanted to keep it for his son, but things changed. So any ideas/thoughts? Given recent investments in our Z, want $4100, though some have given us higher $s.

Is eBay the way to go or not?

well i sold my last vehicle (a pickup) on ebay and was amazed at the interest it brought. so i'd definitely recommend ebay as the way to go.

guy that bought my '87 yota flew out to portland or, from montana and drove it back.

They do exist. There are also a number of "low-rust" Zs. Here's another one located in the Golden State that would make an excellent project car:

Since you're asking, I would say: Absolutely you should list the car on eBay if you want to get the most money for it! As it's been discussed in dozens of threads here on Classic Zcar Club, Zs will sell for a lot more if listed on eBay rather than trying to list them locally such as Craig's List or on Cars.com, etc. Especially a one-owner, low-rust California car. The important thing is to have a very good presentation of the car. So be sure to take plenty of pictures and provide a very detailed summary. I would start the bidding at $5k, then let it go up from there.
