Well I didn't realize having a POS alternator would make it impossible to tell if my dash lights and turn signals work, but they do now. Haha, now the tail lights need to be sorted out.

I can't seem to find the brake pedal switch. Its way up behind the dash right?

If your charging system is not putting out enough voltage, or if your voltage drop to your lights, etc. is too great, they will not illuminate (at all or brightly).

I was chasing a charging system problem in my car for a month. Turns out my alternator was bad, so I installed a 94 amp GM alternator.

Check the grounds on the bulbs ..... If you have a multi-meter check for voltage...

Are the wires there? Two green/red tracer with female connectors somewhere in the vicinity of where the switch would be. If you jump them together you can see if your brake lights work. Also, when you do get a switch, make sure the plastic piece that goes in the hole on the shaft is there. If not, the plunger on the brake light switch will go through the hole and your brake lights will stay on.

Well I got one from the parts store (I know I could have gotten one from the JY but its dark and raining). Its for a 260z, does that matter at all? I hooked it up to what I thought was the right wire and now it keeps blowing fuses. They DID work for a little bit though which is very encouraging.

Should be the same switch. Sounds like you have a short somewhere in the brake light circuit. Possibly the reason that the PO removed it.

alright, well How would I wire it with new wire? does it go battery-switch-fuse light? Or Battery-Fuse-switch-fuse-light? Something else?

It should just plug into the two wires I described in post #32. You'd have to look at a schematic to see path they take in order to rewire it yourself. The fact that they work but eventually blow the fuse indicates a short somewhere along the way. Might be easier to trace the short than rewire it. Check the sockets that house the brake lights and the connection there as well. Check the wires where they plug into the switch. Do they have the plastic covers on them where the terminals plug in?
