Proof that Z owners are the coolest!

So a little back story first.

2-3 weeks ago some buddies and I decided to doing a rolling photoshoot of the Z. We drove down to this perfect road, it was a getting dark out quick, but we managed to get a few really good pictures (just take a look at my album!). Anyway, I lost track of how long we were out there and how far we'd driven when I happened to glance at the fuel guage. Of course it was on E. So we immediately headed for home and made it to within about 10 block before I ran it out of fuel. Ouch. But my friend gave me a lift to get some gas, and the station let me borrow a gas can.

So fast forward to 2:20 today. I pull out of my parking lot and get up to the first intersection by my place. After some cursing about how busy the cross traffic is, the Z starts to have issues. I try to keep her alive, but no luck. I'm pretty sure that she's run out of gas again (now hold on, I didn't lose track of anything this time. but for the last few days, I've been suspicious of the gas guage and it's lack of movement toward E. I thought that it had stayed at about 1/3 to 1/2 for far too long), and sure enough she won't fire up again. So as I start pushing her backwards in the wrong lane back down in front of my place, a 280ZX passes by and yells "what's wrong?"

I get her to the side of the road, and start trying to process what I can do. I was going to go to the school office, the post office, and then to work. I'm supposed to work at 3, and it's already 2:30. All of the sudden, the 280 pulls up and parks, and the guy hops out. "I had to come back" he said. He offered to give me a lift to the gas station, and I took him up on it. The first station we went to had neither a loaner can nor any for sale. "Thanks anyway" I told him, not wanting to imposition him too much. "C'mon, I'll take you to the Shell station, they should have one there" he said. The shell did have one, for sale, so I bought it and he took me back to my Z. After remembering to introduce myself and thanking him for all his help, he left. But not before insisting that we go cruising in the spring. He said some Z owners make a run up to Mt. Baker every year. "You know where to find me" I told him.

I got her started again and took her to go fill up. And now I have some checking to do.

But now I know for sure, that Z owners are the best guys and gals out there. Love you all.

And thanks again Joel, your '78 280ZX isn't the prettiest, but she's a life saver for sure!

I never met a Z owner I didn't like... or wouldn't help. (Twist On Will Rogers quote) I don't think there are many car owning fraternities that are as homogenous as ours. I think it has something to do with what the Z represents and the type of person who would own one.

I do have some camraderie with other collectible owners and will often exchange waves with them much like motorcycle drivers do. Being with fellow Z owners is a unique experience though.
