December 11, 200717 yr comment_231063 Randy,I had spotty performance from spray adhesive when used on vinyl attached directly to metal. For that I used Weldwood contact cement (available at Lowe's et al), applied to both sides and allowed to tack up for at least 30 minutes. Apply to metal carefully, as it's tough to reposition. I did some dry runs over the rear wheel areas to be sure it would work out. I used spray adhesive on the luggage riser vinyl, and will have to go back and reapply with contact cement.I did use spray adhesive (bought from an upholstery shop) when attaching vinyl to the trans tunnel padding. It has adhered quite well so far.Good luck,SteveBTW, what's wrong with your old stuff? Won't clean up well? Shredded? December 12, 200717 yr comment_231152 Yes, I'll need to reattach my vinyl to the transmission tunnel as well. Passenger side is perfect, but driver's side is loose. Let us know how the Weldwood goes... Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/26477-new-vinyl-install/#findComment-231152 Share on other sites
December 16, 200717 yr comment_231537 77 adhesive looses its grip in hot temperatures, i used it to attach vinyl on another car and it started to cause creases where the adhesive let up. weldwood should work though. or maybe 3m 90 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/26477-new-vinyl-install/#findComment-231537 Share on other sites
December 19, 200717 yr comment_231773 At first I was concerned about getting the vinyl on straight using the contact cement but, turned out great. The glue was more forgiving then I expected. The installation looks much better this time. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/26477-new-vinyl-install/#findComment-231773 Share on other sites
December 19, 200717 yr comment_231780 I've been using weldwood for years with no issues-the last four or five I used the gel version, and found it easy to work with-not that the non gell is difficult...Eill Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/26477-new-vinyl-install/#findComment-231780 Share on other sites
