New Vinyl install....???

Hey guys,

My new diamond vinyl just came in from Les today and I was wondering what would be the best way to install it. Aerasol spray adhesive? what brand? Where do I start? Any tips or tricks....etc.

Any help would be appreaciated.

I had spotty performance from spray adhesive when used on vinyl attached directly to metal. For that I used Weldwood contact cement (available at Lowe's et al), applied to both sides and allowed to tack up for at least 30 minutes. Apply to metal carefully, as it's tough to reposition. I did some dry runs over the rear wheel areas to be sure it would work out. I used spray adhesive on the luggage riser vinyl, and will have to go back and reapply with contact cement.

I did use spray adhesive (bought from an upholstery shop) when attaching vinyl to the trans tunnel padding. It has adhered quite well so far.

BTW, what's wrong with your old stuff? Won't clean up well? Shredded?

Just did mine, used 3m 77 series spray.

I used 3M 77 spray and it is coming loose three months later. I am going back with Weldwood contact cement.

My old stuff was very fadded and stained, plus I got the new seat covers and wanted the vinyl to match.

Looks like Weldwood is the way to go, I'll post some "after" pictures hopefully soon.

Yes, I'll need to reattach my vinyl to the transmission tunnel as well. Passenger side is perfect, but driver's side is loose. Let us know how the Weldwood goes...

77 adhesive looses its grip in hot temperatures, i used it to attach vinyl on another car and it started to cause creases where the adhesive let up. weldwood should work though. or maybe 3m 90

At first I was concerned about getting the vinyl on straight using the contact cement but, turned out great. The glue was more forgiving then I expected. The installation looks much better this time.

I've been using weldwood for years with no issues-the last four or five I used the gel version, and found it easy to work with-not that the non gell is difficult...
