Posted December 17, 200717 yr comment_231638 Does anyone have a line on a pair of the chrome door handle finishing trim pieces that attach to the door panel at the top of the interior door handles? Do they have a specific name? It seems that some of these would be floating around somewhere but I haven't seen any. Thanks!Michael Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/26530-280z-chrome-door-handle-finishing-trim/ Share on other sites
December 18, 200717 yr comment_231672 I'm sure you mean the covers that go over the screw on the upper part of the armrest. Don't know a specific name for them. They don't show in the microfiche so I've never found a part number for them. The ones on my car are good and the only spare I have is lacking the chrome. Never seen them for sale anywhere and I always look for them when I go to the junkyard but I've had no luck finding ones with good chrome. December 18, 200717 yr comment_231676 ...snip...They don't show in the microfiche so I've never found a part number for them...snip... My guess is that it's probably for the same reason you couldn't get the chrome trim caps for the passenger side "grab" handle on the 240's. You had to buy the handle itself which then came with the caps. Hence no part numbers for the caps themselves. December 18, 200717 yr comment_231696 I need a pair of those too. I usually cjek eBay, and I've only seen one or two, ever. What if you peeled the chrome off and put something else on instead, like black paint or a rubber dip? Can you get a silver rubber dip?thxZ Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/26530-280z-chrome-door-handle-finishing-trim/#findComment-231696 Share on other sites
December 18, 200717 yr comment_231716 Can you spray it with chrome type spray paint? Maybe Krylon Fusion for plastics? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/26530-280z-chrome-door-handle-finishing-trim/#findComment-231716 Share on other sites
December 18, 200717 yr comment_231726 I've never seen a chrome paint that actually mimics chrome. I think the closest you might come to chrome is to laminate the part with aluminum foil, shiny-side up. December 19, 200717 yr comment_231758 I sold three once on eBay - they all had some problems - one had good chrome, but was cracked and the other two had major peeling of chrome in areas. I described all their faults and documented them with pics. They sold for $50+ shipping to Australia. I couldn't believe it - they must be rare. I always buy them when I see them in a wrecking yards even tho I have a 240Z. The problem here is these cars out in the sticks are going to the crusher faster than I can find them. I have to head back up to B.C. and see if there are any left in the nearby yards I know they're gone down here. I'll keep my eyes open for more, but reproductions or an inexpensive way to rechrome might be your best future bet. December 19, 200717 yr comment_231763 I'm sure that a mold could easily be made from an existing part that could be borrowed, and parts could be made with vacuum-forming. The tricky part would be the hook things on the back, that hook onto the door pull, but I'm sure you could duplicate that too, glue it together, and somehow chrome them, or a layer of shiny aluminum, like I suggested. Silver foil might work, if you can get some.thxZ Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/26530-280z-chrome-door-handle-finishing-trim/#findComment-231763 Share on other sites
