72 stock seat one is "crooked"

I bought this set of seats like 2 years ago, and when I put it together today, one of the seat is "crooked" to one side, the other is fine, can someone point out what I did wrong? I really like the function of this one compare to the 71 stock seat. I did not transfer anything from my 71 stock seat, both seat are

from 72 or 73 complete, did I put it together wrong? or........... please help

Only guessing but pehaps the locking mechanism for the recliner cogs are out of synch.

Look for a wire tie or bar connecting the sides of the seat.

You may have to jiggle the locks independantly to straighten the squab up in relation to the back rest:ermm:

Have you assembled both seats? I vaguely recall a similar problem when I was re-assembling mine years ago. Unfortunately, I don't remember if I had put the Passenger seat bottom on the Driver's back or vice versa. That's why I'm asking that.

Your pictures do show that one is definitely further forward than the other. Might there have been a different set of holes further back in the seat bottom frame?

Just thinking out loud.

I would say that possibly it has been in an accident...I've seen a couple of pretty tweaked seats that if you didn't know they were in a car accident, you wouldn't have been able to figure it out...the whole frame was tweaked from impact with a larger person in the seat....good luck on figuring out why one side is more forward than the other. Very strange looking!

By the way---about half way through the '72 model year, Nissan switched from strap bottoms to steel bottoms. The steel bottoms have a bunch of 'squiggly' lined metal rods like a mattress bottom, in preperation of using the safety buzzer system in later years....so mid 72 and earlier are strap bottom seats (wide, 2+ inch elastic straps across the bottom for support) or have a steel bottom.

Above is a rough estimate...I don't think there was an exact 'cut off' or anything like that...my 10/71 1972 model year had strap bottomed seats.

From your pictures, I can't tell if you have a screw in the top hole of the left hand bracket or not.

Nonetheless look at the difference in the mounting position of the two sides. the Right side is mounted correctly on the seat back - the left side is not. You need to rotate the top of the brack, on the Left side toward the rear of the seat, then screw it in place there.

If there are no holes in the seat back - on the left side - that line up with the holes on the right side.. you have the wrong seat back.

Some more identifying criteria:

The reclining seat back mechanism in your pictures is for a Right Hand Side seat. (Since you have a LHD car, that's the passenger side.) The Reclining Adjustment Lever goes on the "outside" side of the seat, which in this case is the Right side of the seat bottom.

Your Seat Adjustment Lever for the RH seat should be on the LEFT FRONT side of the lower cushion. (It's attached to the slider bracket, but removing the slider from the seat cushion frame is usually NOT done as it is difficult and usually unnecessary.)

For the Left Hand seat, everything inverts. Reclining lever is on the Left, Adjustment lever is on the Right Front.

Dogma is correct in the change in seat bottom support springs, but without further research I couldn't tell you what month/year they switched.
