Hi Ron:

Is that a "seat bottom change notification" or is that a notice about the switches used?

Nonetheless - The Seat Belt Warning buzzer was required for 1972 Production. So the seats with the wire springs went into 240-Z's beginning in Jan. 72. The VIN's started at HLS30 00001... 01/72. A few 12/71 production cars came with the springs in the seats - but no warning light on the fuse box cover...

Dogma420:yes it is metal rod under, so those are after Aug 72 for sure.

Carl:Good eyes, the left/right bracket is at at different angel, so Datsun put my right hand bracket too far back, but there is a weld nut under the seat cover, that is not not easy to move the bracket back to make it even on bothside, what I don't understand is how can someone have those seat in their car and not notice this? I did check my other seat, same situation, but the difference is not as big, so it is not noticeable.

When you swapped them around, did you swap JUST the seat backs or seat backs WITH mechanisms?

Since you have another seat with the "same situation" it might be as simple as swapping out JUST the backs or the mechanisms.

When I say the mechanisms, I mean swapping out the seat backs onto the other mechanisms, then swapping out them as a unit. It might be that the right back is on the right seat, but the mechanisms are on the wrong pair.

But how do you explain the picture posted above by Carl Beck(yesterday (12/24)1:02 PM), that the location of the bracket is different on the same seat. one is closer to the front, and the other one is closer to the back.

No... your Right Hand Bracket, with the adjustment lever - is where it is supposed to be. (at least that is where it is on all my cars). The problem is with the Left Hand Bracket, it seems to be bolted in to the side of the seat back - too far forward, and the top of the bracket is at too steep an upright angle.

I wonder if some previous owner, stripped the original captive nuts in the seat back - then just drilled new holes farther forward.

From the same picture that Carl posted, look at the position of the mechanisms as mounted on the SEAT BOTTOM in relation to each other. One seems further back than the other.

It may be that you need to swap out seat backs WITH mechanism onto the other bottoms. But from what Carl's picture shows it may be that your mechanisms alone may be what needs to be swapped out and not the cushions.

Swapping out ONLY the seat backs without changing the mechanisms assumes that you have the mechanisms on the proper seat bottom. That was why I explained the location of the adjustment lever, so you could ascertain if you had the proper mechanism on the proper seat cushion.

Note that if you re-align the seat back on the left hand bracket (the crooked seat) similarly to the one on the right, everything gets more crooked.

I think Rico is correct, something is off in the mechanisms (either it is a passenger's side trying to be mounted on the driver's side or there has been a major twist...).

Take some photos of your stock seats to get a comparison.

Try this:

place the seat back flat on the floor and measure the distance from the mounting holes to the floor on each side, I think you will find the seat back has been twisted-the alignment of the upholstery leads me to this-one side is positioned as mine is and the other side has more of the bolster panel where it should not be-not a situation lending itself to a problem with the mechanism-in my opinion.

I have an un-upholstered '72 seat back on the porch, and when the boys get to bed, I'll take some pics and measurements and post them for your review.

No pictues-dead battery in the camera-go figure 140 pictures today...

But in looking at the "big Pictues", I think that you have some of two or three things bent, the actual seat back, the Lever from the pivot to the seat mack mounting, and maybe even the mounting plate on the seat bottom.

The bent arm between the seat mechanism and the seat back should have two bends in it, and have three flat areas-if one or more is bowed-as I suspect-(look at the one from the other seat), there is the proof!
