I have two coupes (the '71 and the '77) and one 2+2.

My preference is coupe for a few reasons:

1. Appearance: The lines on the coupe are better (this is obviously subjective).

2. Utility: The back seats in a 2+2 are all but meaningless (actually stuffed my dad into the back of the '87...not comfortable).

3. Weight: Why add extra weight in a vehicle that is oriented around performance.

My two cents...

Nothing wrong with the 2+2, I love my '74!

* Remember those "useless" back seats work fine for kids (don't know where I'd mount the booster seat for my three year old in a couple

*The stock weight penalty on a 2+2 vs. a coupe is less than 300#, and I bet I've already trimmed close to 100# off by removing the huge bumpers & their shock absorbers. The MSA FRP body kit is very light! I'll gladly pay a 200# penalty for the utility value of rear seats!

*Appearance is subjective. I think the 2+2 is sharp looking as is, and think the MSA-Type 2 kit I've added makes for a very sleek looking GT. By February I will have lowered the car another inch with the Tokico spring/strut combo and migrated over to 16" Konig Rewinds. But here's what she looks like now:

I just don't get the apparent fixation that many people seem to have with removing weight from these cars. Unless you're building a race car what difference does it really make? Appearance wise, Exdamyankee, that car looks great but I'll bet you did that more for that reason than weight reduction.

Yeah, those wheels are not very common, believe me I have no plans to toss them when the Rewinds go on! I like them a lot, I just need something to fill out the wheelwells better. It looks OK now--but I know the 16's will make a huge difference.

Hey Bigoak, I wasn't "irked," I just felt the need to jump in and defend the "limoZine" owners and their rides.

BTW, I plan on balancing out the extra weight a little more by bolting up the Maxima N47 head I've got sitting in storage, once I have it ported nicely. Look for that in the spring :devious:
