December 31, 200717 yr comment_232571 If you're talking about the L shaped, layered thing that bolts to the bottom of the differential mounting member, I have that on my 78 also. I've never really figured out what that is either. December 31, 200717 yr Author comment_232577 There is definately a thread on that. I had mine off when I replaced the for'd diff mount - the manual refers to it as a damper plate. It was a pain in the nuts to reinstall. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/26607-what-is-this/?&page=2#findComment-232577 Share on other sites

December 31, 200717 yr comment_232629 hmmm thats an odd part indeed. My 1977 doesn't have that. don't really see the need???? my best guess is maybe it was some sort of Kit Nissan added on as a dampner for people that complained about the common "Clunk" sound?? who knows. December 31, 200717 yr comment_232636 my 77 has it. prod date 6/77. it also has a 7lb lump of steel bolted to the bottom of the diff carrier..vibration damper i assume. i just HAD to ditch it. pshycologically, the car feels 100lbs lighter..OL You must be talking about this. There was a thread on it and I think it helps absorb vibrations from the differentional that could be felt if I remember correctly. I will have to try and look up that old thread.
