  1. 1. What would make a ZCCA convention a can't miss event?

    • 1) Put the Car Show on Saturday so more Zs can attend.
    • 2) Have meetings / demonstrations / therapy for the different Zs during the show.
    • 3) Have a bikini contest.
    • 4) Several drives through town one after the car show and one later in the festivities.
    • 5) Display the winning cars for the rest of the show-if owners can.
    • 6) After the car show have a training meeting for how to improve your score.
    • 7) Have the ZCCA / host website continually updated for those who could not attend.
    • 8) Have the previous winners cars displayed-even if only pictures
    • 9) Have an ugliest Z contest....(WE KNOW a 350Z would win, butt...)
    • 10) Have areas set up for meeting members after the days events.
    • 11) Make the convention store the communications hub.
    • 12) Make it more personal.
    • 13) Drive all event routes with a duallie and trailer to check accessability
    • 14) Set up local PSAs prior to and for the duration of the event
    • 15) Invite the media to the carshow.

I hope everyone will keep their posts to this thread positive, and suggest rather than dwell on history. The ZCCA is made up of hardworking volunteers that have carried the flame of Z love nationwide for a healthy number of years.

Having said that, what would you suggest to make events better? Please post any serious thoughts...

Id like a bikini contest. Not with girls. But with Z's in bikinis.

Whatever you're smokin, mail me some  !

Hey, how about a montly art contest?

Photo shop, hand drawn or what ever.

Also I think there was a thread/forum somewhere for Datsun memorbilia or

collectibles were they.

I like to see more of that stuff if we have it :)

Edit ~ ~ The word Convention apperently flew over my head there ^_^

OK, section for art and another for collectibles to buy sell but mainly those for historical

display and reffence.

I have a few rare key chains for example where the desing is the same but one is

from I believe England, my 2nd yellow one, which has

a makers mark of a royal crown on the back when the others does'nt.

And another is a totol upgrade from the rest being the fact that

it's Black with matching Black chain link from the fob to keyring.

This type of place would be great for getting historicle reference and puttin together

a history persay of the collectibles along with who made them and the variations :)

1) Georgia Convention - Best all around event to date

2) Colorado Convention - cool site for car show

3) Kingston Convention - spent most of the time drinking - great time

4) New Hampshire Convention - couldn't wait to get home

5) San Antonio Convention - Great people - car show in the boonies

6) Los Angeles Convention - Should have been biggest

7) Albuquerque Convention - To much hate

8) Florida Convention - Singing in the rain

9) Las Vegas Convention - Great location - convention troubles - most know

Something not in the voting: Have the car show in an open enviornment, not an enclosed track that doesn't allow outsiders to attend. Exposure is the key word here. Can't have it if the local public can't attend. This in turn will give more exposure to vendors that help support the event. Foot traffic baby-see MSA

Keeping in mind that the convention is a five day event, unlike any other Z event, I think a weekend car show would get the most people to attend. Of course, so would a weekend track day.

My suggestion is that the ZCCA hire a convention promotion business to put on the convention.

I have been to:

Long Beach - 2004 - best Japanese attendance

Syracuse - 2005 - best track (Watkins Glen)

Dallas - 2006 - met the most new friends

Daytona - 2007 - fun in spite of the weather

Will,

I got your PM and e-mailed you back.

PS: The media IS invited to the convention.

I think you will be very happy about the venue and attractions for the 2008 Convention in Cleveland, Ohio. You be seeing everything on the list except maybe #3 & 6 (maybe.)

There are several drives planned. A Poker Run, two track days, sightseeing tours to nearby cities, and more.

And we made sure that there will be lots of access to people from the ordinary community. We have some media coverage, judging seminars, and some visists by special guests planned.

As one of the event planners and event managers at the NH convention, I can say we couldn't wait for Art to leave either. He's still pissed because he didn't need a business license and didn't ask for a table at the car show. Did he turn down the lobster diner after the day at the track, the open-ended shrimp bowl at the banquet, or the free drinks at the reception? Hell, no. So, Tail of the Dragon in '08, Art? Maybe I can talk Brad into giving you a ride with him.

That said, I find most of the poll listings to be pretty lame or off the mark. How about getting Aerosmith to do a benefit concert at the track (say, Daytona) or raffle off a new NISMO 350Z, or offer a chance on a free trip to Japan to watch the spring races? All great ideas but who is going to bankroll these suggestions?

A great convention would be one that had the following IMHO:

1) easy registration (software that remembered me from last year)

2) a good track

3) good food at the reception (and enough of it)

4) a road rallye that didn't take you through a city or get you lost

5) a carshow crew that knew what they were doing (set-up, judges, supplies, water -remember the heat in Texas, etc.)

6) a pre-carshow review to weed out (and educate owners) wrong class issues

7) an autocross event without drifters nearly destroying the timing equipment

8) a social/historic/fun side event that either makes you smile or gives you a better appreciation for the location you're in (River-walk, Boston Duck tour, etc.)

9) an "expert's panel"

10) a hotel that is dedicated to the convention, with staff that will bend a rule or two, and one that isn't too large so that 400 Z people aren't considered a small group (Vegas)

11) access to historic Z cars and people

12) an ample amount of good food at the banquet

That is exactly the sort of answer I aim for with all my polls!
