  1. 1. What would make a ZCCA convention a can't miss event?

    • 1) Put the Car Show on Saturday so more Zs can attend.
    • 2) Have meetings / demonstrations / therapy for the different Zs during the show.
    • 3) Have a bikini contest.
    • 4) Several drives through town one after the car show and one later in the festivities.
    • 5) Display the winning cars for the rest of the show-if owners can.
    • 6) After the car show have a training meeting for how to improve your score.
    • 7) Have the ZCCA / host website continually updated for those who could not attend.
    • 8) Have the previous winners cars displayed-even if only pictures
    • 9) Have an ugliest Z contest....(WE KNOW a 350Z would win, butt...)
    • 10) Have areas set up for meeting members after the days events.
    • 11) Make the convention store the communications hub.
    • 12) Make it more personal.
    • 13) Drive all event routes with a duallie and trailer to check accessability
    • 14) Set up local PSAs prior to and for the duration of the event
    • 15) Invite the media to the carshow.

Will, I couldn't teach anybody how to party. I just make sure to attach myself to the people that look they are going to have the best time. So far it has worked for me. I could never keep up with some of these guys. maybe when I was 20, but not now. I have a simple rule, if I can't make money then I damn well better have a good time spending what little I have.

Art,

I am going to adopt that one myself...

At the Convention, one thing stood out from everything else, there was a rather rotund (and well known Z nut)Texan there who took the time to shake everyones hand and welcome them personally on two occasions and with feeling-not the lame (coach says this is important)kind thing competing teams have, the march across the field shake at the end of a game, but what came across as a "I am seriously glad you are here."

Wasn't I talking about a glad hand and a smile, he had it, and gave it away all night... Guess who he was...

There is a customer saying from a overly successful business man that goes something like this:

"They may well forget what was done, they may well forget who did it, but they will never forget how it made them feel".

That mans welcome to the convention was that way-powerful personal marketing-he was passionate about a newbie being there-and he gave me a memorable Handshake and eye contact without prompting. What ever else he did, he did that right.

I heard nothing but good points, especially on this 2nd page so far.

But personally I like the weekend format better (Friday/Thursday-Monday).

Another example is a counter I have which tracks visits

on my Ebay auctions.

Monday through Wednesday gets 13 hits a day in traffic and

Thursday has a little bit of a boost.

But Friday Saturday and Sunday spikes up to around 50, 70 or 100+ a day

most times.

And it's true what they say about the peak being from 7pm to 10pm.

During those times people look 20 to 30+ an hour.

Other hours are around 5 to 10 visits.

As for media I place classifieds on a few online car clubs aswell as my

favorite here ^_^ and that also helps boost traffic on weekends and

throughout the week!

Course those numbers depend on whats being sold like an Extreamly Rare

NOS '71 JDM TA/22 Celica GT badge I bought with 30 hits on auction for $40.

(a Celica was going to be the 2nd car after the Z ^^)

I turned around and had to sell it and got $291.56 for it running a 10 day

auction with classifieds placed on 5 Celica online club forums and

the auction had 2000+ HITS !

LSS (Long Story Short), weekends jus seems to be the natural

time when people come out to play espescially for something COOL as

a car show, after all who doesn't like having

fun on Saturdays :)

As for the long distance travlers who need longer travel

time I see they're point of view too, but flip a coin and eitherway

you win or lose evenly as long as you have your strategy

and planning right.

I think another problem with a Saturday Z car show is that people want a 1/2 day to arrive, unwind, feast & mingle, 1/2 to a full day for primping, then two or three days for track events, sightseeing & such, then a day for the banquet, packup & go. That's a lot to fit into a weekend, unless you live an hour away.

Tomohawk,

How many successful carshows are there that do not include track days-my point is you are looking at only one type of customer for the Convention. The greater number is the customer I am talking about, and there is absolutely no reason both cannot be made to feel welcome and wanted at the same show.g to both is easy, and much more effective than marketing only to either one.

And from experience, every time we try to slip in a little skin in the magazine they (our women subscribers) make it very clear that is not why they get the mag.

I think the premise is to plan a fun marketable function of the convention. Frankly I'm spoken for, but not blind.

I must have missed something...I don't ever recall an issue that would demand such strong opposition from the opposite gender.

On another issue:

I see the issues associated with the weekend car show.

You need to have it at the begining of the convention while the cars are clean. Traditionally the day before is shine day for those that drove.

If you have it on a Sunday to accomodate the other points, it makes it tough for those not sticking around for the rest of the convention.

BUT...MSA gets the turn out!

I think the simple truth is that anyone wanting to participate in a "National Show" will make the time. This is a once a year opportunity, and the date is set a year in advance. If it's important there's plenty of time to save up, and schedule the time off.

Will,

I'm just sharing my opinions on these things. If anyone wants to see changes in the 2008 convention, they need to cantact ZCCA, and/or the people in charge of the 2008 event.

These kinds of changes should be put to the people working on the 2009 convention, or the one after that, but IMO, it's too late to reschedule things for next fall.

I go to a lot of Saturday or Sunday car shows from spontaneous decisions on Friday night, but it it's not the biggest reason I have.
