Series I Steering Wheel Going for Record Price!

Nuts, simply nuts. I sold one that appears to be just as good to a member here for his low-VIN resto a month or two ago, for far less than that. They aren't all that rare. Good for the seller, but not so great for everyone else.

I have one stored away in the garage, maybe it's a good time to list it on eBay! :classic:

That is a crazy price for a steering wheel in average unrestored condition. I know that seller (he lives pretty close to me) and I have bought several things from him. He always seems to get record prices for most everything he sells for some reason. When I have something to sell on eBay I think I need to have him list it for me, or at least copy his ad or something. By the way Arne, yours was in better condition and your clock is still running too, so thanks again for both.

While it may be a bit early to "cash" in on the earlier wheels, that price is by no means surprising.

Early Roadster steering wheels, routinely fetch over $100 in "restoreable" condition. In Mint? Last 7 out of 10 wheel I saw went for over $250 dollars. Heck the horn buttons for the same steering wheel with the "D" in the center are going for over $200 dollars.

Could be an isolated instance that this steering wheel is selling this high. If one has not been listed for quite awhile, a bidding war is more likely to occur. These steering wheels withstood the test of time and there are probably more of them still in existance than there are Series 1 Z's left. Just like all the other Series 1 specific parts, I think they are being hoarded by guys like us.:ermm:

Edit-Xray just made me eat that first statement. Wow! High prices indeed.

I've been keeping an eye on this one, for when I replace my steering wheel with one I like, I'm selling mine. It is in no way in the same condition as that one, however, I still have the horn pad, and the wheel itself needs to be sanded and painted and refinished. And my horn, well, I need to touch the wire to ground to get it to beep at the moment....

If you look at the bid history. It looks to me that the seller is using shill bidders. The same person won both steering wheels and there were several same bidders. Or could be coincidental. I really don't like ebay as its a varying of opinions as to condition....
