Megasquirt is a whole different ballgame from the factory Datsun system. More modern and more 'user friendly'. Hell, you can tune it with your laptop. I would also disagree about Delorto's. I've also had some experience with them and they may be harder to tune than Mikunis. And definately harder to find parts or info for. Webers would be the way to go for tirpples but his choice is EFI vs. SUs in which case SUs would be the clear winner considering cost, his skill level, etc.

With vw's a lot of people like the delorto's. that's why i like them.

My dad could set his up once and race with them all year, only changing the jetting.

When he got his webers though, he had quite a bit of trouble getting his car to run as happy as he did with delorto's. I can't remember the exact reason though. I think just because they were a bit funkier to tune.

Never messed with mikuni's so i wouldn't know about tuning them. I had two downdraft delorto's i was SUPPOSED to put on my car. my dad sold them >_<

my graduation gift was SUPPOSED to be his 1776cc from his karmen ghia along with the tranny, but then he changed his mind.

anyways, i won't argue about finding parts for them. They are hard to find parts for. And getting them totally overhauled is even harder. There's one guy in the VW community that apparently does a wicked nice job of cleaning/repairing delorto's.

The reason why i say the delorto's are nice is mainly because i'm originally from the vw community. downdraft delorto's are one of the nicest street carb's to use. Weber's are also nice, but they aren't as streetable from what a lot of people say. I'm not sure about on a Z though. I don't really see any triple delorto setups LOL.

(sorry, i ramble a lot and end up probably saying a lot of non-sense)

From what i've seen/heard i really would like to megasquirt my car once i rebuild the engine. I'll have to buy myself a cheap laptop though. (or haul my computer out of my appartment, along with a huge extension cable to run down teh stairs hah!)

I agree though. For the cost/experience, stick with SU's. converting a car to EFI seems like too much work imo.

I myself will be running the mega squirt ECU. They can be set up for stock EFI systems, all the way up to turbo, however you have to have a seperate turbo computer. I agree its a lot of work to convert, but worth it in my case for the turbo. I will be running a mego-squirt ECU with a MSD 6AL ignition with the either a 79zx or mallory dizzy.
