Posted January 4, 200817 yr comment_232959 hi guys, this is my first time i've even had to ask for help, usually i can find what need in someone elses thread. anyway i hope you can help heres the deal. about 2 months ago i started driving my 240z for the first time, after three weeks the head gasket blows. no big deal right well 5 or 6 weeks later i've finally got everything assembled or so i thought. when i go to start for the first time i get nothing, ignition timing is good,i was pretty damn sure i had the cam aligned correctly but a compression test showed around 100 psi on all six, so thought maybe the cam is off, i've moved it 180 degrees and get no pressure in cyl 1, i moved it back and still 0 psi, i've tried advancing and retarding the cam by a couple teeth on the cam sprocket one tooth at a time and still nothing. One thing i'm hoping to get from you guys is a picture of the cam in the head with cyl 1 TDC with dist rotor at #1. anything else you can chip in with is cool too. thanks Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/26658-help-with-cam-alignment/ Share on other sites
January 4, 200817 yr comment_232971 Here is a wee bit of info. I hope it helps. DON'T rotate the engine UNTIL you correct the cam timing:finger::finger: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/26658-help-with-cam-alignment/#findComment-232971 Share on other sites
January 4, 200817 yr comment_232988 That info looks helpful, but the pics are too small.. Can you upsize or scan them? Thanks. Here's a pic that I think gets you close to what you want...I was having some timing issues earlier as well... Good luck, Steve Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/26658-help-with-cam-alignment/#findComment-232988 Share on other sites
January 5, 200817 yr comment_233031 If the camshaft was 180 degrees out and you cranked the engine with the starter you may have bent several of your valves. That would explain why you have no compression.
