Clock question

First - why is this thread twice the width of my screen?

Clocks: I attempted to bring my original back to life using instructions from this site and the best I got was about thirty running seconds and a head ache. The instructions were good, but between my shakey hands and poor vision I wasn't up to the job.

Looking for instant gratification I simply bought a quartz unit (78)on Ebay - about $40. It makes weird noises, but it looks almost identical and keeps perfect time and has been in service for over a year without issue.

Sure, just point your finger at the guy with the "BIG" picture. I hope ya washed it first. ROFL

Yah, It was my fault. That was the smallest picture of the clock I had on hand. It was late and I did'nt have time to reduce the photo to a respectably smaller size.

But on the other hand, I can totally tell how dirty the plastic is, now.

Dave.

I noticed that also about the thread not fitting my screen, and I have a 22 inch Widescreen :)

I bought 2 from a '77 and didnt have luck with either of them. I had been searching Ebay for awhile and finally gave up. The last "working clock" I bought on Ebay wasnt, the seller had perfect 100% feedback so I notified him of the fact the clock was DOA and he gave me his cell. We chatted for awhile and he was out of town and told me he would send another one when he returned as well as a couple other little goodies to make up for it. Of course, I never got them nor a response to my email :)

Thanks again for all that replied. I have a long awaited week off of work next week! My wife does not!!! I am finally going to have some time to work on my car I got in September. I have the interior gutted and alot of parts here or in route in the next couple days.

I reupholstered the seats already with new foam inserts as well. I am going to the dry ice trick on the floor and tranny tunnel to remove the stock soundproofing. I just got my POR15 today and Dynamat knockoff (eDead) and will knock out the rust free floors. I also have a roll of carpeting coming to cut out new from the factory carpeting I ripped out. Then I have a new stereo and 4 speakers, power antenna sitting here waiting, a replacement set of guages to put the indiglo gauge faces into when they arrive next week, then a Grant steering wheel to complete the interior...wish me luck:)

I guess I am going to have to go to different stores and check out clocks.

I found a few sites on the web selling movements, but the smallest I can find is 2-1/8 square which will not fit into the housing...

once again, you guys are great...thanks!

I hope you gave the seller a negative feedback.

No, I should have but didnt. I DID give negative feedback to the thief that sold me the car though :)

Dave, thanks for the tip, I'll check it out...

Bo, that would be great, I will pick one up as well if you get that number, thanks!

If you can't find the one at Michaels, the one I used from Wal-Mart was $5.00 and worked almost perfectly. It is shaped like a miniature old style round alarm clock. Take it apart...the Z hands fit almost exactly, the hour hand fits perfect, the minute hand fit well but I did a drop of superglue to make sure it stayed attached. There was some trimming needed, but it was easy. I took me less than an hour. BTW, I used my favorite double stick foam tape to attach the face to the new clock. Worked great.
