BTW if you do get the stripper on your skin use clean water to rinse if off asap....

Thanks...I was smart enough to wear long sleeves and latex gloves. About the only smart thing I've done since buying this car LOL

be vary careful using a heat gun on flammable liquid! You may find you have a blow torch in your hand in quick order.

Okay, make that 2 smart things I have done. I rinsed off the stripper, I had only applied it onto the spare tire wheel well to experiment with it.

The guy at Home Depot gave me a plastic scraper and told me not to use a metal putty knife as I didnt want to create a spark around this stuff.

That alone is enough to think I shouldnt use a heat gun with it :) I still have the entire driver side and rear to do. I thought I would try a heat gun on the drivers side this morning.

I am removing the paint so I can put down POR-15. It all started because the PO had put down "new" carpet using a roll of automotive carpet. It looked ok, but he had hacked a few pieces, cutting around the e-brake and seat belts and I just wasnt happy. So, I thought I would replace it. Then I got the smart idea to put down a new sound/heat barrier i.e. Dynamat or one of its imitations. Then I thought, hell, I might as well POR-15 it since Im here. That required removing the old sound proofing and now the paint.

I guess in the long run its a good thing because I would have never found the rust on the passenger side (until it got much worse anyway)

Also, something I just did this weekend with Zs-Ondabrain was use the SEM rust convertet (if you can still find it), and over coated it truck bed liner, with creates a nice, solid seal, and acts as a minimal sound barrier itself. We used the dupli color bed liner, which takes a day to dry, or you could use the actual Rhino lining, which takes about 3 days to dry. And also, you'll need to let it air out before you put in the carpeting. I have pics of everything we did over the weekend, and it looks good. Now, its just a matter of me getting dynamat to put in, then new carpet.

Did you use the Dupli-color spray on liner? I've seen it at my local Auto Zone before when I was pondering what to do with the floors before actually starting.

BTW...I am jealous you have Dave to help you out. I WISH he was my neighbor! I'd love to have Dave, Escanlon and Sblake over for a weekend marathon! I was hoping to find someone local on here that felt sorry for me and offered to lend a hand from time to time :) :) Guess I'll have to go it alone...except for all the great help I have received from everyone on here.

It was the dupli color liner that I used. And I will be moving back to Ohio with my family at the end of the year, so I will be there with my Z. And I have a great uncle who owns his own auto body shop that will be helping me also. He takes old cars and restores them and works on other peolpes cars too, and drag races on the weekends...

I tell you what though, I'm very grateful to Dave with all the help he's given. Myself, I'm a computer geek, nerd, whatever you wanna call it, and I will be builing him a new computer for all the helps he's been given me.

...snip..The stripper I bought today was Kleen Strip and the guy at Home Depot told me it was their industrial strength...snip...

This summer, I got started working on an old tiller that I was gonna just do a little clean up on and the ol' "as long as I'm doing that, I might as well do this" got me. LOL

This thing (1966 Western Auto "Wizard" tiller made by Gilson) had three coats of paint on it and was being a real pain. I too went to the Depot and got a can of Kleen Strip. Had to use the entire can on just the handle bar section. (Brush it on, wait, remove barely 1 coat, clean and repeat the process for the other 2 coats!)

So one day while I was at the auto parts store picking up some paint, I saw some spray on paint remover by Tal-Strip and thought I'd give it a go.

Boy, am I glad I did. This stuff went through most of the 3 coats with one application, was alot easier to apply (spray on) and was only about $5 bucks a can.

You will definitely need to apply during the temperature range recommended and be sure to follow the safety tips (cover skin and use eye protection) as this stuff burns like hell when it gets on you.

Sounds like you know this from personal experience. :P

But that's good info, for when I'm ready to do the body, I'm going to want to take it down to bare metal and do any under coating and body filling needed and give it about 3 coats of primer before I take it to a paint shop or paint it myself, unless someone else has any suggetions for me.

You bet! I was spraying and a breeze blew just a little misted chemical back on my forearms and in less than a minute I was like, "DANG!" Then I thought, what if this had gotten in my eyes?

So yes I like this stuff, but because it's spray on, cover your skin and WEAR EYE PROTECTION!

MEZZZ,

Isn't TomoHawk in your neck of the woods? LOLROFLLOL

Hahaha...I think he is in Cleveland, about a 4 hour or so drive :)

I just came in, needed a break from this ordeal...when I get frustrated I just walk away for a bit :)

I went out and bought a heat gun and it isnt any better, might help me get in the little nooks that the stripper wheel wont fit into but it is more cumbersome to use, and much slower.
