just curious..

who here can drive their 240Z with windows up and down and have no exhaust smell what-so-ever?

has anyone successfully 100% gotten rid of the exhaust smell?

it's so hot nowadays and i keep my windows rolled up and sunroof closed cuz as soon as i crack any window i smell exhaust or if i even pop the sunroof a bit i start to smell exhaust fumes...it's really hot with no a/c and windows rolled up...

Hi Driftmonkey,

This may be a good topic for another poll ???? "Who has or had a Fume Problem".

Heaps has been written on this topic and a search will find a mine of information on it.

When I got my 240z, the fumes were bloody bad with the windows down.

Since then I have been whittling away at it, and things are getting better bit by bit.

To date I have:

Extended the exhaust tail pipe tip so that it is no longer short of the rear bumper but level with it.

Replaced the tail pipe that came straight out, with one that is angled down at the end.

Removed, re-sealed and tightened the rear tail light assemblies so that nothing would get past the rubber seals. I found the units to be not tightened very well.

Have fiddled with the rear hatch adjustment... not seating as good as I would like yet.

Have just purchased a genuine Nissan replacement main rear hatch rubber (not very cheap...A$265 about US$135), but yet to be fitted.

My experience, is that there is probably more than one problem, so its a case of working through all the possible areas where the exhaust emissions can be sucked in through.

Not I. Windows up and floor vents open is the only way to be fume free. And I have done practically everything listed above and some more and "...whittling away at it..." is a good summation. MAke sure there are sealed liners inside hatch and door panels. That one made a big difference. don't forget the Antenae drain hole....Lic. plate light shield...install the latch INSIDE a plastic bag...Make sure you have no exhaust leaks ahead of the tail...Go over the spare tire area and surrounding again...plug everything...Those two big holes at the bottom of the hatch..............................................

I no longer reek of exhaust upon arrival!

I also have an open joint at the header/Y-pipe swage. It moves so much I have never had the heart to weld or clamp it. Not sure how much it causes--pretty tight fitting--and no restrictions past it.

Yes, inner boot is a good one! Theya rea always all cracked and ripped. My PO had drilled holes in the tunnel behind the radio for mounting or something???? He has also removed the rubber boots from the passenger firewall for wires to pass through...I put a new boot on the throttle too. It had disentigrated.

When I removed the rear pannel on the passenger side I could see clear down to the ground below all around the gas filler hose. The seal on mine had been weathered away. I sealed it with silicone and good-by exhaust fumes!
