A friend just called me and is interested in possibly picking it up. It's only about 1/2 hour away from us, and I have offered to go take a look with him. I'm a 240 owner and have a fairly good idea where and what to look for in the area of rust, but there are things about the 260 that I am not familiar with.... such as: should the vinyl on the rear strut towers be 'diamond' or not.... no good picture of the battery tray, no underside pix... and what else do you see that is a possible concern? Please pick this apart for me and do us a favor by pointing out any issues that you think apply to this car. Price fair?

Decent condition overall, but make sure you lift up the carpets to check for any rot under the floor boards that may be apparent, and check the inner fenders both inside the engine compartment and underneath it. If there's too much rot, you'd end up having a project like mine.. And it wouldn't hurt to take a hydraulic jack with you to check other things as well, and be sure to check the seams of the floor boards and other areas. Water loves to hide there and couse the usual cancer.

It looks very nice except the talk of the bottom being pushed in - I would like to know what that means. Some bottom shots would do it. The diamond pattern is not in all the post 240 cars, this looks like the 280 style covering, the rest of the car looks nice. If you are serious, you should ask all the specific questions you need to satisfy yourself befor getting involved in the auction. I would want to see pics of everything.

Thanks for the responses! It sold with the "best offer" option shortly after I posted the question. Not to my friend.... I wish he would have held out a bit longer, I was getting excited about taking a little drive to crawl around under it..... next one.

I thought I saw a 73 in Bethlehem for sale on Ebay the other day. It was not great but not too bad. My 73 is a PA car and is not a rust bucket.

That 73 is well worth going to look at - could be a real "find" in that part of the country.

Thanks very much for the tip on the '73!! I have passed the info on to my friend, and made an inquiry to the seller as well about a few things. I agree that this could be a really good find in this neck of the woods. Heck, if the engine is shot, I've got a spare L24 sitting out front just looking for something to do. I'd give it to my friend just to get another Z-car in the neighborhood.... kinda neat, too... the exact same color scheme as my '72 except I have no pinstripes....

If the body work on the '73 was good, that could be a steal...
