red_dog007 Posted January 15, 2008 Share #1 Posted January 15, 2008 Ok, so working on the brakes last night we got a lot done. New SS brake lines, repacked the hub, new rotors and while I was installing the Calipers I forgot which way they go in. Is the bleed nipple on top, or is it on the bottom? Also, I am having an issue hooking up the brake lines. The small "S" shaped brake line from the caliper to the mount on the strut, I can not get it to fit up to the new calipers. It is too short if the nipple is on the bottom and it is too long and the caliper piston is in the way if the nipple is up top. Is there something certain that can replace this "S" shaped brake line? Arne Posted January 15, 2008 Share #2 Posted January 15, 2008 Is the bleed nipple on top, or is it on the bottom?Bleeders must always be at the top, so that no air is trapped above the bleeders.
het976 Posted January 15, 2008 Share #3 Posted January 15, 2008 Bleed fitting goes to the top. I had to reshape my S lines slightly to get them to line up with the Toyota Calipers, buy they did line up OK. I did the reshape by hand.
het976 Posted January 15, 2008 Share #4 Posted January 15, 2008 Here is a shot of the s-bend on mine, so you see it can be done.
PATZ Posted February 15, 2008 Share #5 Posted February 15, 2008 I`m replacing the hard brake lines, just the shorter pieces, on the 240z coz it had SINGLE Flared COPPER lines(a "favorite" over here in the phil. coz its dirt-dirt cheap to buy and it can be flared at any auto supply store, and coz most of the population dont realize the DANGERS!). I just bought steel lines and had them cut it the right length and had them double flare it. I broke a cheap flaring tool(branded "General") trying to do the flairing. Then i`m just bending it by hand using some circular object, a pulley, tube,etc..I dont have a tube bender, thats why.
