Black pearl mirrors??

Sailor Bob

Recommended Posts

Just got the notice that a set of Black pearl mirrors that I was bidding on went for over $200. Am I nuts or are they the same ones I have on my car - dealer installed type? They certainly look like it. (Earlier described as Darth Vader Mirrors)

Anyway it'll be a long time befor I pony up that much + shipping ($25).

Those were for sale by a member of our forum. Good for him!

I've been selling sets for $150 and mine are bead blasted, totally refurbished and complete with mounting brackets and rubber gaskets. Guess I'll have to up the price on my 10 remaining sets.

Just FYI - they aren't really "Black Pearl Mirrors"... unless they came on a Black Pearl - LOL...

They are Datsun Racing Mirrors, and back in 1972 they were $14.95 for the set!!

So a gallon of gas was $0.32 per gallon and today it's $3.25. A pack of butts was $0.30 and today they are $3.25.... So in todays devalued dollars $149.50 is about right. Then you have to add the cost of storage and handling for 36 years.... and even $250.00 per set doesn't seem like much for such a rare and collectible item.

FWIW,

Carl B.

Well Bob, I guess I've sold more than I thought I had. I have 5 1/2 sets left, unless there are more buried somewhere in the garage. (possible!)

Anyway, I thought I read something in another thread that indicated you may be in need of a single mirror due to a damaged casing on one of yours. If that's the case, shoot me a PM, I'm sure we can work something out.

I've got one set of true black pearl mirrors put up with the wheels, louvers, the vin plates/firewall section and title from the same car. It was too far gone to save any other way. no engine, and obvious rapid decereration trauma from the core support to the tunnel(actually had to straighten the section when I cut out the section of the firewall) and rusted away from spending twenty years with only remnants of a tarp and a hatch glass to keep water out.

If Bob has a mirror with a loose ball joint there is a permanent fix here.
