January 25, 200817 yr comment_235362 The zx block has flat top pistons and the head has value. Only the 81-83 ZX non turbo had flat top pistons. I know his car falls in that catagory but for clarification that not all ZXs had flat top pistons, the 79-80 had the N42 block/N47 head combo with dished pistons, and the 81-83 n/a had the F54/P79 combo with flat top pistons. The only ZX after 80 with dished pistons was the turbo, F54/P90 or P90A. January 25, 200817 yr Author comment_235376 Bonzi-Yes, this is the only 4 year Restoration program in the U.S.. And actually, we send a car to Barrett-Jackson every year. This year we sold a '56 T-bird and it ended up selling to Tony Stewart I believe... Yes, Jay Leno does help. He is on the board of directors for the school because of the program. We don't see or hear from him much, but he said once he retires, he will probably be around more often. As for the show, you can pre-register or just pay at the gate. It doesn't matter.--Chad Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/26851-new-to-zs-from-kansas/?&page=2#findComment-235376 Share on other sites

January 26, 200817 yr comment_235498 Chad,Welcome to the board and the world of Z's. Your experience with the first car is not uncommon. My first Z purchase was advertised as only needing brake lines. Once we got the car up on a hoist, we found out with mild pressure you could put your fingers right through the rear of the unibody (behind the seats). Luckily the seller was a stand-up guy and took the car back.Since then I've added 3 and plan for more. Have fun with the resto! January 27, 200817 yr Author comment_235587 Hey everybody, here is the '75! I just picked it up yesterday. It's not pretty, but it is solid other than a few holes in the rockers and doglegs. --Chad Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/26851-new-to-zs-from-kansas/?&page=2#findComment-235587 Share on other sites
January 27, 200817 yr comment_235610 Chad;Be sure to examine those rocker panels and rear doglegs with a fine magnifying glass. If the cancer showing on the left rocker panel is any indication, this may be the straw that could break that car's back. The front fender lowers are typical, but may be hiding trouble in the front part of the rocker panel on both sides.Remove the inner vinyl and look through to the exterior sheet metal of the rocker through the reinforcing holes. 2¢Enrique Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/26851-new-to-zs-from-kansas/?&page=2#findComment-235610 Share on other sites
January 28, 200817 yr comment_235632 A number of 240 owners would also be interested in the Alternator off of your 81. I just picked one up myself for my stereo system/headlight upgrade.Welcome Chad! January 31, 200817 yr Author comment_235937 ok, thanks Enrique. I know that both rockers are not pretty, but when comparing this car to my '81, I know that the floors and the frame rails beneath the floors are solid. This should mean that the '75 is in better structural shape than the '81, right???--Chad Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/26851-new-to-zs-from-kansas/?&page=2#findComment-235937 Share on other sites

February 4, 200817 yr comment_236280 Hi Chad,Assume you're an Auto Rat at MC, as was I back in 96-97. I know Scott, Patrick, Nick and some of the guys, my 62 Vette chassis is coming to you guys this week or next. Motor, tranny and rear axle assy are already there somewhere. I'll try to bring my 75 by sometime soon when checking on Vette project. I do have factory service manual you can copy sometime if you want. Catch you soon.
