Cover Or No Cover In Rain?

Unfortunately I had to move to a place that doesn't have a nice spot (garage / carport) for my Z. I usually keep a cover on it, as I only drive it about once a week or so. I just had it painted over a year so I want to preserve the car as much as possible.

When it rains I usually take the cover off. Now, we don't get so much rain out here in Southern California, but I cringe everytime I read a weather report predicting rain. My car cover is nothing fancy. Of course it claims to be made out of "breathable" material and all that.

So, my question is this. As long as I am in this situation, what do you guys think is better for my car? Cover or no cover for when it pours? Thanks.

ps....the bra is off during the rainy season.

Just like for the bra, there is no problem leaving the cover on when the rain is falling. But you DO NOT want to let the cover sit on the car while it dries. Especially if the sun comes out. So I would recommend removing the cover prior to the storm, then replacing it when the car is completely dry.

Or -- you could move to a place with a carport or garage...

Edit: I have never understood why this forum doesn't have a winking smiley!

....OK, sounds like what I've been doing. I just don't want to deal with the rust issue, as it was taken care of in 2006 when it went to the bodyshop. Thanks!

ps...my next place will have a garage, I swear!

I really think you should get a portable car port. Either a foldable one or a semi permanent one. You can purchase this at Pep Boys or Kragen. There should be one close to you in pasadena. I am also located in pasadena. Maybe we can set up a z meet this weekend or other older japanese car in our area. Let me know if you can. Thanks.

...I'll check them out, though I have done some pricing on e-bay. Lots of $$$ plus I don't think I have the room in back since I share the space with others in the building.

Once in a while I go for a Canyon Run on the Angles Crest with some other sports car enthusiests. This happens every Sunday morning at 7am. They all meet up at the Shell station on Foothill in La Canada. Maybe one of these days we can set something up when the roads aren't slick. Art Singer fom Sunrise Z goes once in a while.
