Need measurment sizes and photo's!

Hey i going to work on the underside of the car and the floors of the 240z.

I need to reconstruct alot...

I need to now some sizes, as made in red on photo. And how the underside is welded? ( red/blue ) is it welded to the underside? Thanks in advance.

Interesting "spook" on the car in the photo. Do you have any other photos of it from the front? Anyone know where it came from?

That is the rocker panel - it is two pieces - and inner and outter

It is welded to the floorpan, as well as the front fire wall

See Item #19, 20 and #2 #3..

You used to be able to get them from TABCO or Mill Supply

Bart here are a couple of places to check. Charley Osborne at Zedd Findings datsunzparts.com is vary helpful and has the parts . Another is baddogparts.com They also have the sheet metal parts that I think you need or at least Charley Osborne will have the measurements you are looking for. I have use his floor pans and found them to be first rate. Gary

Factory service manual (or FSM). Very useful.

Look at carfiche.com for 76 & 77. Otherwise look on E-bay. They pop up from time to time.

I am trying to restore a 1971 240Z. I bought it when I was living in Montreal, where I grew up. I am the third owner: bought it from my best friend in 1977, drove it for 3 years. During my first year of ownership I had the driver and passenger side floor worked on...did not know much then but it looks like the body shop just put sheet metal on top of it, pop riveted it down then slathered on undercoating really thick! Botch job!!). Anyway it stopped me from getting sprayed in the face with road water every time I hit a puddle!!

In 1980 I lost a heater hose and cracked the head. I tore down the engine, changed the bearings and got a new head from a scrap yard. Buttoned it up and drove it for the summer, then went out of the country for school. So I put it away in 1980 and there it sat. Moved to Toronto in 1994 and brought it with me, but just now finding the time to looking at restoring it.

Did the prep and engine started and runs just fine, but the body...oh the body! Floors bad but not horrible, driver's side fender and rear wheel well has some rust perf, but the rocker panel under the door is gone, though the door sill part is pretty good...go figure! Not sure of the exact names for the parts (and that's why I asked for parts manual pdf sources), but behind the exterior part of the rocker panel (#19 and 20), I see the remains of a horizontal member which runs under the door that has approx 2" round holes punched in it. It's #2 and #3 in the drawings you attached. Is this the inner rocker? This is badly corroded and needs replacing (i.e. not much of it is left), but I am not sure how one goes about it. Do you know if this is terminal? What I really need is some advice on how big a job this is. The name of a 240Z body guy in my neck of the woods would be great!

I know that the answer about whether its worth it is a really personal one and it usually comes down to "it depends", but I am just looking for an idea of how big an undertaking changing #3 an #19 is. Also worried about screwing up the geometry of the car.
