Posted January 25, 200817 yr comment_235386 hey guys i'm currently trying to sort out the route i will take on my second 240 1973. i'm trying to keep it fairly old school. think the hugger orange i've seen on the camaro's looks nice in the pictures. with most of you guys on the other side of the pond, i was wondering what the color is like in the flesh and do you think it would suit the classic s30 lines ?? I agree with Andy, if you like orange, the original 918 Orange is a great color. I used to have a '71 918 Orange that I sold last May to a Frenchman who was living in NY at the time. He recently moved back to France and transported the car to his home in the south west of France. I have attached a pic of the car on my driveway shortly before I sold it plus a couple pics that the new owner sent me (a great guy, by the way) right after it arrived in France. January 25, 200817 yr Author comment_235427 hey bart. believe it or not i've toyed with both those color schemes, before deciding on keeping the period look. conclusion i came up with was a) candy red. brilliant color which gives real depth to s30 lines but bit of a fashion color so may look out of place in the future. gunmetal & stripes eleanor style. the 240 is not a big bulky car like a mustang, so unless you go the whole hog marc rolston style (see pic) and really beef your car it may not have the desired affect. hope that helps. January 25, 200817 yr comment_235428 Orange is good. The "stock" color on my car was not good. What color do you look good driving? That is the color you want. They tell me that bright colors are better if the body isn't perfect because it is harder to find the flaws. You only get one guess why my car is lime green... January 28, 200817 yr comment_235645 I too "ummed and arghed" about what colour to paint my car. The pull to keeping it period is great but equally the colour you like is also hard to get away from. I also looked at many of the later model Nissan colours before looking at other manufacturers colour codes. I finally ended up painting in a 1970 period Porsche colour that I like, guards red.If you have a low VIN car in concourse condition that you want to sell at a later stage, then stick a stock colour if you want to realise the most for it. Otherwise IMO, paint what you want. Be warned though, painting old cars modern colours sometimes results in expensive re-sprays. January 28, 200817 yr comment_235650 I had my Z "Hemi Orange" in the 80s. I ended up painting the hood and cowl flat black just to tone it down. It was too bright for my tastes, but I kept it that way for several years and got a lot of compliments on it. If I were to do an orange, it would be the stock color. Later I painted it "Guards Red" which I liked a lot. Today it is silver (I got it back this color – Nissan 350Z liquid Aluminum). It was funny, when we stripped the door jams it was like one of those multi-color jaw breakers...primer, butterscotch, primer, black, primer, orange, primer, red, primer, silver. My son was like WTF?????? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/26885-hugger-orange-240z/#findComment-235650 Share on other sites
