Songs of the day

Ok nostalgic minded people , when my Z was built in feb 1971 , I was 8 yrs old and the song of the day on the billboard top 100 was , The Osmonds ,One bad apple . Although I was just a kid I remember the song and i can still hear it playing on my mom's little am radio that she used to keep in the kitchen . So here is the challenge , when your Z was built do you know what was the song of the day ? let's compile a list , make a master disc and play old school to our hearts content !

BTW , I never liked the Osmonds , although Three dog night had a great hit the same year , Joy to the world , We still sing it out loud when camping late at nite .Rock on , and lets reminisce with some awesome tunes .

I bought my car new in September 1972 and immediately named her Brandy - after the song of the same name (Brandy - You're a Fine Girl) by the Looking Glass. This song was the number one hit for only one week on the Billboard chart of August 26, 1972 - about 2 weeks before I bought the car. I still have a brass plaque on the console that says "Brandy - 13 September 1972."

The number one songs in the U.S. when my car was built in June 1972 were Sammy Davis Jr. - The Candy Man, and later in the month Neil Diamond - Song Sung Blue . Of course, the folks building the car in Japan may have been listening to a different number one song....

Excellent link , never seen that one before . looks like Tony Orlando and Dawn had the hit, '' knock three times '' until the 7th of feb , then the Osmonds took over . Thankfully only for a short time . Although the Stones set the world a fire with Brown Sugar a short time after !

Great idea! I have had fun going back in time. It caused me to realize that the month my "early model 74" was built was the same month that my wife and I started dating. Culminating in 35 years of marriage this year.Geez....hard to believe.

Other ...memories of that year for me was in April of 1973, I bought my 73 "smoggified" Chevy Nova SS 350. I traded in a 1971 Toyota Corolla 1600 that as a 19 year old I had managed to run the _ _ _ _ out of running 510 Datsun's, MG's and the like.

I always liked the 240 Z and for what I spent on the Nova I could have bought one but my best friends dad was the GM for AJ Foyt's Chevrolet dealership in Houston and constantly berated me for driving a Japanese piece of tin. He made me a deal on the Nova. My fondness of those cars created the desire to build my Z with a modified SBC in it.

C'mon.... Stephen you didn't have disco fever? Thankfully.... by 78 I had two kids the club scene and music had dropped down on my list of interests pretty significantly. Your list though from 78 does point out that the music did suck and to me has never recovered....at least for my taste. I like your 71list much better.

December 1971: Family Affair - Sly & Family Stone

March 1972: Heart Of Gold - Neil Young
