Posted January 29, 200817 yr comment_235686 Thats right! For the first time I seen the General Lee 1969 Dodge Charger crossing the intersection I was waiting at on mainstreet. It was 2 cars back in the middle lane crossing from left to right in the middle of the rain. I looked just in time to see it pull up to a stop then take off cross the street handling just like the car on the TV show! Kind of did the little side to side thing as it was braking There was nothing "replica" looking about it. It had the correct Vector Racing wheels, Decals, Paint Job and all that! I think it did have Washington plates though as I was trying to see if it was local. The color was even correct and not all that Bright Orange you see some of those Chargers converted to, granted it was raining and the sky's completly cloud covered. But all I could do was smile and laugh out loud as those lovely tailights was kicking rain in the air going up the bridge to the background. Another most perfect car, now I want one :rambo: ~Z~ Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/26909-i-seen-the-general-lee-today/ Share on other sites

January 30, 200817 yr comment_235716 It was driving down El Camino Real in San Mateo and there it was. I was dissapointed that the driver and passenger weren't wearing costumes. Don't know if it was the original, but it sure looked like it. Was still a kick to see it! It got lots of attention...Has anyone seen one of the Speed Racer Mach V replicars?http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.sussexcountyonline.com/news/columns/cars/carreviews/images/mach5.jpeg&imgrefurl=http://www.sussexcountyonline.com/news/columns/cars/carreviews/speedracer.html&h=155&w=300&sz=11&tbnid=x-6CLbkcdCSJ-M:&tbnh=60&tbnw=116&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dmach%2B5%26um%3D1&start=3&sa=X&oi=images&ct=image&cd=3 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/26909-i-seen-the-general-lee-today/#findComment-235716 Share on other sites

January 30, 200817 yr comment_235721 I have heard over 300 were built and destroyed during that show's run, so some were 1969s, but no 1970s were used. When the show closed a friend of mine bought one of the like 20 cars they had left over. I drove it and it was kind of a POS really. The "roll cage" was built out of exhaust tube. The interior was tan, but painted over with a kind of brown. The car was originally gold. I was surprised that the flag and all the numbers were painted on, not decals as I would have expected. The doors and windows worked. His was in fact a 1969 car, although the G.L. was a 1968. It had a 383 mag motor and an auto. He owned the car for about a year and then sold it to a guy in Utah. It was fun to run around in and it always got looks and comments (not all of them kind). The thing that sticks out most was it was a huge car and handled like a tank. January 30, 200817 yr comment_235736 There's still a few Gen. Lees' left out there. Every fall I take a drive up to the Shenandoah Mts. for some fall apples and scenery. There she sits almost every year in Sperryville, Va. across from my apple stand. I've asked some locals and they say the owner of it was related to someone who worked on the show. It still looks pretty good! Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/26909-i-seen-the-general-lee-today/#findComment-235736 Share on other sites
January 30, 200817 yr comment_235738 Alright, I have to admit it, the town that I live in has a little Dukes of Hazzard following. I think they flimed part of the shows here. They even had the Dukes of Hazzard car show here a few years back.I remember that there was this guy in town claiming that he had one of the few remaining General Lee's out in his barn. The local paper went & did a big write-up on him with a photo of him leaning against the car. Front page news if I recall correctly. In the end, some Dukes of Hazzard expert called him on it & it ended up that he was lying. It's really not that hick here, I promise.http://www.angelfire.com/ms2/corndog05dukes/newspapers/newton061904.html Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/26909-i-seen-the-general-lee-today/#findComment-235738 Share on other sites

I remember seeing that on the Car Crazy intro but thought it was a one of only. And they're building it for $72,000 ! ? Why do people waste money on SUV's and Hummers? Another one I have to put on my get list In the case of anything to do with "The Dukes of Hazard" I believe that his grammar was correct within the context. January 30, 200817 yr comment_235757 I watched both the General Lee ('70s TV show) and the Batmobile ('60s TV show) sold at the Barrett-Jackson Auction a couple weeks ago. However, I understand that the Batmobile was a very nicely done 1974 replica and the General Lee was one of the many actually used on the show.
