Restoration isn't always about the money spent, it's about the process. For me, I have a hell of a lot more fun spending a weekend in my shop rebuilding sections of a car, cussing about a broken bolt, trying to find the correct replacement part, etc. than I do driving virtually any 'new' anything.

Then again, driving one every now and then would be a lot of fun.

Saw this car last night in person, what a beauty! Car is every bit as nice as described in the ad. Definately a unique car with only 1400 miles!

That's funny, I saw it in person last night as well.

I'm not a big fan of the 280ZX but it's quite amazing (along with the rest of the collection, of course).

Wow that's unreal if it is what he says, I wonder if the warrante is still good,just kidding. Does anyone know what the sticker price of that model was in 82?

Well, MSRP was $13,850 - $14,300 for a 1980 10th anniversary 280zx, so I would guess a little more than that.

There is something strange about the description. To quote: "I JUST HAD A TOTAL SERVICE PERFORMED ON THE CAR. ALL FLUIDS & FILTERS WERE CHANGED, VALVES CHECKED, TIMING & DWELL, BELTS INSPECTED, ETC."

I wouldn't be too concerned about that particular part of the description. I suspect it was copied and pasted. After seeing this car and many others (9 immaculate 240Zs - 4 of which are "vintage" Zs) I have absolutely no doubt about the authenticity and quality of the car. Here's a picture that I took less than 24 hours ago right after the eBay add was posted.

Mike, I wasn't trying to imply that the auction was fraudulent. I just thought it was humorous that he said the dwell was checked/adjusted. Perhaps he did pay for someone to do that...

Dwell angle - reflects the number of degrees of distributor shaft rotation during which the points are closed, and the coil is energized. If the mechanical points have been replaced with either a magnetic or LED sensor it really doesn't change the need for the proper dwell angle to be present.

You check the dwell angle with a digital meter. The dwell can be out of spec due to the distributor shaft/bearings being worn, sensors for the LED or magnet being improperly aligned etc.

Although it is doubtful that it needed to be done on a ZX with 1400 miles... ;-)
