Potential purchace, good idea?

HotrodPez

I found a 71 240z for sale. $1000. I looked at it a few days ago. looks complete. comes with some extra parts (weather stripping, kick panels, quarter panels) The engine is out of a 260z, new clutch, runs but carbs need cleaning. The only thing i found bad on this car is that there is plenty of rust right in front of the rear tires and there is a large dent on the quarter panel / drivers door.

Is a grand a ripoff? or should i give it a closer look?

hotrod , the rust that you see just rear of the doors down low , we refer to as the doglegs. This is a RED flag and could be vary expensive to repair . Vary likely it extends forward along the rocker , frame rail, forward to the front fender. there is no frame in these cars , all sheet metal uni-body. Look closely in these areas under and inside the car. If you can weld or have access to someone that will do the work , this can be of great help.

I can weld pretty well with a TIG. And the replacement panels come with the car. As for the big dent, are driver's doors easy or hard to come by (aka, would i rather slide hammer the dent out and bondo it or replace the whole door?)

But yes, i need to go over the car again and see how bad the rust really is.
