February 7, 200817 yr comment_236625 I did the dome lamp upgrade from MSA a couple months ago that uses an LED bulb, I think it was $19-$0. Really did a good job of lighting up the interior with a nice white/bluish light. It was pretty simple, take out the stock bulb, put in the 1 inch square 9 LED replacement and stand back and be happy. February 7, 200817 yr comment_236630 Since my rollbar blocks the dome light this looks interesting. Maybe a clear plastic slipsleeve to help protect the tubes might work. I have them for the overhead lights in my workshop. February 7, 200817 yr comment_236634 Where would you hide the electronics for the dome lamp? Or would it matter much? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/26986-interior-lighting-upgrade-for-all-zs/?&page=2#findComment-236634 Share on other sites
February 7, 200817 yr Author comment_236644 Like I already said before, The blue inverter box would easily slip into the dome light hole and be hidden up inside that roof support, so the only wires you'll see will be the white tube light wires. And those can easily be hidden with some black sleeving because the wires unplug from the inverter.I also found out that the new tube lightscome on when the dome light switch is depressed. So they can be turned on at any time.GNOSEZ....The 3mm lights actually sit in an 11mm? protective tube. You're set. February 7, 200817 yr Author comment_236696 So it turns out that someone over at HybridZ has done this to his Buick and plans on doing it to his 260Z as well. This picture is in his Signiture, the far right of the picture shows his Red Cold Cathode lights lighting up the interior beautifully. June 13, 200816 yr comment_250607 I know this is an older thread, but I gotta put my 2 cents in, since I don't want to see somebody's Z go up in flames. These Cold Cathode lights have to have their voltage stepped up very high, thats what the box is for... well I have read many a post on computer moder forums of those boxes going up in Smoke and Flames! so If you do attempt this Please! buy the higher quality name brand ones, not the cheapies. I think the High brightness LED sounds like a Much better idea, just for the safety standpoint.
