zbane Posted February 14, 2008 Share #1 Posted February 14, 2008 After serving me on a daily basis so very well for the last two years, I figured I should give my S130 a break. Alas, in order to do this, I needed to find myself a car to drive on a daily basis (and to replace my gas-hog, semi-blown engine Montero). Craigslist to the rescue. I found a dealer in Greensboro, NC who was willing to do a swap, and he was willing to drive the 4.5 hours for my Mitsu sight unseen. I suggested a trade, and after hearing what he had on the lot, I chose the 2001 Infiniti I 30. I know there are several members on the site who have one, and if there are any issues that I should look into, please let me know. Anyway, this car is much less a Valentine's day gift to myself; it is really for the Datsun. Now, I can get down to repairing some things that take more that a day to do, like the frame rails for starters...
rdefabri Posted February 14, 2008 Share #2 Posted February 14, 2008 NICE! I had a 2000 Maxima SE 5-speed, loved that car (pretty much same as your I30), but had to sell it after I lost my job (this was like 7-8 years ago). Recently, I picked up a cherry GS400, but I was looking at G35 6MTs and a Subaru Legacy GT as well. The I30 should serve you well as a daily driver - that VQ engine is sweet! sblake01 Posted February 14, 2008 Share #3 Posted February 14, 2008 My only experience with Infinit's is with the RWD cars. We owned a 1994 Q45 and a 1994 J30. Both were great cars IMO although the Q45 wasn't much for fuel economy(duh!). Only problem I ever had with the Q45 was the cd changer quit working and since the cost of replacing it with the factory unit was rather high, I never did. The cd player in the dash still worked. The only problem I ever had with the J30 was a leaky silicone filled suspension damper which cost about $35 and was easy to replace. If Infiniti's quality didn't improve between 1994 and 2001, and I'm sure it has, you've got a solid car.
Zs-ondabrain Posted February 14, 2008 Share #4 Posted February 14, 2008 My early Valentines day gift was 2) 10" MTX subs. That's why I'm selling the single 12" sub in a custom fiberglass spare tire well enclosure with the amp and cover, in the classified section.Love the Infinity. looks like a hell of a deal. If I did'nt have 5 kids, I'd look into getting one myself. But it looks like mini vans are us, for me, for now.Dave.

sblake01 Posted February 14, 2008 Share #6 Posted February 14, 2008 No minivans! That's what my wife wanted and we don't even have kids, at least, not small ones. We replaced the Q45 with the J30 for her daily driver but she still wanted a minivan. We ended up with a HHR. That's as far as I'll bend in that direction. bigoak Posted February 14, 2008 Share #7 Posted February 14, 2008 Sweet. I had a 2000 Maxima as a company car and loved it. Bought it out and gave it to my dad. It's coming up on 200,000 km's now and still rolling strong.Have fun.

zbane Posted February 14, 2008 Author Share #9 Posted February 14, 2008 Thank you all for the kind words, I'm sure I'll be happy with the I30.Re: Minivans- There are only two that I would ever consider: the Honda Odyssey or Nissan Quest. Will, I had the Mitsubishi so full of misc stuff it surprised me. I won't be doing that again (until I visit your house that is).
red_dog007 Posted February 15, 2008 Share #10 Posted February 15, 2008 Thats funny black.HHR is even bending it very far in my books. The only color that I like it in is black, but then I don't like driving black cars. They get too hot in the summer. No vans in my book either. If I had to get a van though, it would only be the Caravan. The new ones look great, and the last gen has never done our family wrong. Though our Toyota likes to brake, (engine blew at 100,000) and everyone that I know have only had issues with their Honda.Thats a very nice Infiniti. Cool that they swapped site unseen. For driving 4.5hours, he must be able to make a pretty nice profit off of it. I know that if it was a dealer, he wouldn't swap a car that he wouldn't make money on. zbane Posted February 16, 2008 Author Share #12 Posted February 16, 2008 i can't stand people who own datsuns and infiniti i30s Funny Jason, funny. I was also considering a '72 510, but thanks to Brian (BRE-240Z) is nixed that one, but here are the pics anyway. Perhaps the 510 will make it into my driveway in the future (if the owner lowers the price-this car has some serious issues). Of course, if I do get it, I'll have to upload a photo of East Bay Ray (there's only one Biafra) as my profile photo... What would you think of that, Mr. King?
