zed240au Posted February 18, 2008 Share #15 Posted February 18, 2008 you really need to decide what you want from your car dont for a minute think a 350 chev is a cheap install if your chasing hp yes you can get a cheap 350 but most are only good for 200 hp and gearboxes are not cheap unless you buy a engine already modified or a crate engine then you spending well on the way to a set triples and strong rebuild for the std motordont get me wrong im all for v8 conversion i have one and are currently doing a upgrade for more hp my target is 400hp so i know i cant get this from a std motor and still have a engine that is happy to cruise around and return reasonable fuel consumption but it will cost in excess of $10,000 aussie dollarsfor less than that money i could have a killer 3.1 l series motor with triple webbers and 300hpso id say set your targets and budget then decide if a std engine can deliver what you want for your budget or whether you need to choose another engineregards mick

Brando Rambo Posted February 18, 2008 Author Share #22 Posted February 18, 2008 to reply to Mr CamouflageThe more i look at the Z31 and the more i shop on line i see there is really nothing to do with it, Sure i can rebuild the engin and put a bigger turbo but i cant put any body kits on it theres no real nice looking rimes and it just gos on and on....all so me and my dad Love to work on Z's but this one is a bitch, u can lost a tool and never see it agin. i liked the 240's becuse there more eazyer to work less of a mess to clean up and mods are eazy to fined, I had a 240z (the one set as my pic its black) and i loves it a lot but that turned in to a rust bucket and my dad pulled the engin (the engin was a L28 280z with R200 diff)...He got me the 300 becuse its all ready has dents in it and is a little Smasted up so i can ruff house the crap out of it. Dont get me wrong i still love it but the more i work on the thing there more and more Problums.(If i could find out how to put pics on the thread i world show you guys but i really dont know how)My plan for a 240zIn the summer i will be goin to take a school that will teach me how to do body and painting repars,so thats what i plan to do for the Z31, as im doing that ill hopfully be working and saving money for a 240. I want to save up like $10,000 in like a year and when the z31 is done sell it for like mybe 2Gs or 3Gsso i have $12,000 to $13,000 to spend then ill buy a nice looking z that not in so bad of Shape strip it sand blast it then Primer and paint then think but as all that is happing have the in line 6 rebuilt and put some 3 way carbs Mybe(still reading on the 3 way carbs) if im not going to do the 3 way set up im going to rebuild the Su's then replace the Shocks and springs then what ever money is left put a nice set of rimes and and put a nice body kiti dont know if im going to make it in to a driffter or not thoThanks for reading i know its a lot but that my plan :rambo:Rambo:rambo:
SteveJ Posted February 18, 2008 Share #23 Posted February 18, 2008 Thanks for reading i know its a lot but that my plan :rambo:Rambo:rambo:NOW we're getting somewhere. No, you didn't really post a lot, but it shows a lot more thought than indicated in your previous post. The key is knowing what your destination is. After that, you have to research what can be done (ITS, drifter, drag racer, etc.), how it can be done (your own blood and sweat or farm it out), and how much it will cost. Once you have your destination and have mapped out how you're going to get there, a lot of us can help you navigate. For instance, if you want to add a lot of horsepower via a V8 swap, you would be smart to read what other people did over at Hybridz. Also, you'll need to select the transmission you want to use, determine the driveshaft length/type, and procure an R200 rear end (unless you want to tear up an R180). You might want to look at posts from 1fastZ at ZCar.com and Hybridz. He made his own 24 valve head out of 240SX heads and added twin turbos. Now that he has the motor running well, he is finding all of the other weak links in the drivetrain. I follow his posts out of admiration for his innovation and to find out what might wear out on my significantly lower power Zs.Do not expect to have people spoon-feed you. However, if you demonstrate in your posts plenty of effort made to research and try things yourself, you will be amazed at what people will share with you. People have done amazing things with their cars and have expended a lot of time, money, and energy in acheiving their goals. Just expect to have to put in a good-faith effort in learning on your own, and people here will fall over themselves to help you.
