sleepyzzz Posted February 21, 2008 Share #1 Posted February 21, 2008 my son coming home from college was hit head on and his '92 Sentra was totaled. he is banged up but not seriously hurt, thanks to wearing his seat belt. right now he is walking, and more worried about getting his ride back, than he is about his knee that still bothers him.he is wanting to replace the car with another Sentra for the gas mileage and awesome reliability of the last one holding up for so long. we had just swapped out the engine and tranny, hoping to get him thru college with this.there is a 2006 Sentra special edition on EBay item number 130199188931that has caught his eye, but it has a salvage title. i was stunned to find it with just 116 miles on it. seller claims that it was hit just three days after the original owner bought it. the price is right if the car is as nice as he claims, but i can't risk buying this and find out that i was taken. if anyone might have the time, to contact this man, and set up a meet to inspect the car, possibly drive it, i would really appreciate it. would even be glad to pay you for your trouble. would like to know asap as the auction ends soon. thanks for the help
zbane Posted February 22, 2008 Share #2 Posted February 22, 2008 I wish I could help you out, but Clayton's about 6 hours away. Perhaps someone near Raleigh will step in.I hope your son continues to get better. Is he taking any physical therapy for the injury?
xray Posted February 22, 2008 Share #3 Posted February 22, 2008 The car in question:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&viewitem=&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.ebay.com%3A80%2Fsearch%2Fsearch.dll%3Ffrom%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dm37%26satitle%3D130199188931%26category0%3D%26fvi%3D1&item=130199188931Sleepyzzz,I'm sorry but I can't in good conscience evaluate a car with salvage/reconstructed title for a stranger to purchase for his son, let alone someone I know. It's too risky, despite all the statements made by the seller. Even if it wasn't a salvage/recon car, If you bought it on my recommendation after I say "Looks good" and something happens I'd feel awful, and you'd probably be tempted to find recourse (I know I would)! Not worth it. In this particular case, he even states he doesn't have pics of the car before the damage. Have you run a Carfax check? My recommendation is: Run, don't walk away from this car. I just checked cars.com, carmax.com and Raleigh Craigslist and there are several Sentras for sale of varying price/year/condition. I'd check one of those first.Sorry,Steve

Is he taking any physical therapy for the injury?has a MRI scheduled today and then we see about surgery. thanks for the reply.xray you are correct, after talking with my Nissan dealer here, we are not interested in that car after all. Nissan won't honor warranty on any vehicle with a salvage title, even one with just 116 miles. the special edition, comes with alloy wheels, abs brakes, fog lights, rear spoiler, and a premium sound system that my son has decided on it being the best for his money. finding one will be on EBay or Auto Trader so we are still looking. thanks for the reply.
