Posted February 24, 200817 yr comment_238380 Advice needed for painting my hood hinges . I've removed and stripped to bare metal the hinges and hoped to paint with por-15 then top coat with the por chassis coat black . I don't think I'm on the right track because the por-15 will seal in the pivot points , so what should be my approach . Thanxz for any advice to this question .Chris Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/27169-painting-hood-hinges/ Share on other sites
February 24, 200817 yr comment_238381 I'm not sure it will mater too much. Just move the hinges when the por-15 gets tacky and it might not flow in between and seize it up. Just a thought. February 24, 200817 yr comment_238385 I would keep the POR15 away from any contact surface of a moving part. They were originally zinc coated and painted. After being painted white lithium grease would be a good choice to lubricate them with. February 24, 200817 yr comment_238394 I agree with Ron, and if you insist on painting with POR, make sure you actually DO move the hinges through their range of movement often (every 10-15 minutes for several hours) during the curing cyle...otherwise...they'll be SOLIDLY stuck. Don't know if I would want to try to hammer them loose, you may end up having to strip and start over. I did this recently when I painted the inside fender and door hinge areas on a Roadster and I wanted to make sure both the Hinge Plates and the Door Latch Plate were both protected and still allowed full range of movement. I moved the plates periodically and often...and the next day I still had to smack a couple to get them loose...so be aware of this.FWIWE Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/27169-painting-hood-hinges/#findComment-238394 Share on other sites
