Posted February 26, 200817 yr comment_238678 Just wanted to say hello to everyone here...I'm fascinated by all the restorations everyone here seems to be performing. My mom has a blue '71 240Z and lately it seems I cannot wait for her to hand it down to the next generation...any tips? (either how to remain patient, or how to convince her?? ...) February 26, 200817 yr comment_238682 I would start saving for my own, it might be quicker, then if she gives you hers before you buy one, you could use the money to restore it. Yeah, I would definitely not wait for one to fall into my lap. Come on, it's a Z! February 26, 200817 yr Author comment_238685 Thanks for the advice...it sounds good, but the wife and I have other important stuff to save for, like a house... Mom did promise the car to me back when I was in high school though..."When I get too old to drive it"...and she's known I've wanted it ever since I was 3. The fact that I grew up riding around in it all the time makes it a little more special, you know?Somewhere I have a pic of her with it from before I was born...I'll post it if I can find it... February 27, 200817 yr comment_238687 I think I'd start saving up for my own. That way, you have two Z's in the family! Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/27192-newbie-here/#findComment-238687 Share on other sites
February 27, 200817 yr comment_238695 Mom did promise the car to me back when I was in high school though..."When I get too old to drive it"......Well, I hate to say it but if your mom is anything like me, that could be a while. I'm 57 and my son is waiting for my Z. High school was 40 years ago for me and I don't plan to stop driving mine anytime soon. Like I tell my son, better start looking for one of your own. The key here is you need some leverage. She has a car you want, what do you have to bring to the table? Some sort of bribe is in order here. Does she need the house painted, or a basement finished? Maybe suggest the car is getting a bit old and needs some work...then start refreshing it, and by the time you're done youve spent all this time on it and put so much work into it that it just sort of becomes yours by osmosis. I'm just throwing stuff out there...:ermm: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/27192-newbie-here/#findComment-238698 Share on other sites
February 27, 200817 yr comment_238711 Pretty simple...tell her the old car is making her look old...Not the nicest way to manipulate dear old ma...but it'll be effective...(don't count on Sunday dinner). February 27, 200817 yr comment_238712 So you can't wait for her to hand it down.... hmmm.... well let's see.... Duct tape, 2-bricks, a rope......naaa... to painful! Forgery lessons, and new pen...... naaa... they'll never believe you! Well dude, you'll just have to show Mom how much you appreciate her Z and help her take care of it's cleaning, waxing, repairs, and tune-ups. Maybe she'll let you take your wife out on a date and a Sunday afternoon drive in the Z. I think that will be the funnest way to get behind the wheel. Mom probably already knows you like it as much as she does! :classic: Good luck. February 27, 200817 yr comment_238721 Or you could just be honest and tell her that you can't wait much longer, and that you're going to start looking for one of your own. Maybe that'll get her to thinking... Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/27192-newbie-here/#findComment-238721 Share on other sites
