Posted February 29, 200817 yr comment_238962 Does anyone know if its practical to reassemble a door when its already painted and mounted? Im talking everything, glass, hardware, locks. It was a pain in the arse getting it all out with the door on the ground, so I assume its more difficult when its on. February 29, 200817 yr comment_238967 There is less chance of scratching/damage occuring with it mounted while it is being assembled. That is how it was done at the factory originally. February 29, 200817 yr comment_238990 ZakIt goes together nicely if you take your time and go step by step. I think it is easier to install all of the parts with the door mounted than on the ground. The Z Restoration book is a good guide. If you are changing the weather strip, it is easier to align the door after the parts are installed and get it perfect before installing the weather stripping (my opinion)Bob M Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/27213-door-reassembly-question/#findComment-238990 Share on other sites
February 29, 200817 yr comment_238994 Stripped Door Shell OFF the car....possibly 25 pounds or so, easily maneuverable with one arm. (It's been a while, so don't pull out your scales.)Fully assembled Door with glass and actuator mechanism, door locks and latches (they go in before glass)....probably closer to 50-60 pounds.Trying to balance either one on your knee or a 2x4 on a floor jack so you can install hinge bolts...you decide.2¢E Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/27213-door-reassembly-question/#findComment-238994 Share on other sites
